Patterned Vinyl

I get asked this all the time: What do I make with patterned vinyl? So today I’m going to share all the cool projects!

Recently, Expressions Vinyl has released so much patterned vinyl goodness.

I see all these patterns and I can’t stop the ideas from flowing! There are so many amazing holidays, geometrics, polka dots florals! I’m in love!

The first thing I did when I got my hands on a few sheets was to put some buffalo check on top of my KitchenAid.

And every time I share about all the fun new patterns, I get asked over and over again “but what do you make with patterned vinyl?” ANSWER: EVERYTHING! But there are a few tips and tricks!

How to use patterned craft vinyl

There are a few things that make using patterned vinyl a little easier! Here are the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.

Don’t pick any font or design that is too skinny. You lose a lot of the pattern when it’s too small. So think THICK fonts! Lemon milk, rhino, or bebas nueu are few of my favorites!
LAYERING IS YOUR FRIEND! It makes the words pop (like here on my pumpkin) Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Cameo both have an offset. It’s a really easy way to create an outline around your design or cut file. It makes it easier for the eye to read when there is a pattern!

Optimize placement! Sometimes if you have a big pattern you can cut something out and not be able to tell what the design is. Make sure to cut it out so the best part of the pattern is on your design! Check out this tutorial by expressions vinyl to see how to move your project to place it right on a good pattern!

Don’t cut into it. Sometimes the vinyl is so pretty, I just use it as a giant sticker! I put some polka dots on another kitchen aid makeover!

or I wrapped it around the Clorox wipes to make them cute for a good upcycle!

You can also just take your scissors and cut out some of the fun designs Like I did on this cute cake carrier.

They have a fun unicorn or gnome pattern that you could just cut them out of!
