A few months ago, I got to sit down and pick out all the vinyl that would go in Expressions Vinyl’s next mystery box! It was so much fun- except I, of course, overthought it and stressed about what would be the biggest hit! I finally narrowed it down (and even custom designed a patterned vinyl!) They got shipped last week so I can FINALLY SHOW YOU WHAT’S INSIDE!
I love these mystery boxes because A. As adults, we never get any surprise happy mail anymore. (Unless you count the stuff we bought off of Amazon and we don’t remember what it is) So it’s so fun to get a whole box of stuff you know you will love. And B. There are always so many fun different kinds of vinyl inside- So it’s a great chance to stretch yourself beyond your vinyl comfort zone! This specific box has etched adhesive, blackboard htv (chalkboard vinyl!) and Flocked Vinyl! 3 fun different kinds for you to try out!
A few things about the mystery box before we jump into the vinyl and projects- Expressions Vinyl puts them up for sale every other month. They have an adhesive box, a heat transfer Vinyl box and a combo box (the best deal!) They sell out really fast- last month it sold out in less than a week! So I recommend clicking over and entering your email at the bottom of THIS PAGE so you don’t miss out!
Okay! Lets Jump in! The box comes with lists that show you exactly what’s in it (and cut settings and iron setting etc! So handy to have! I will link up what I used in the projects But here is the vinyl all laid out (the gridded is transfer tape!)
Three different patterns! Can you guess what one is the one I designed? Here is a hint:
I’m loving the leopard trend- So I jumped right on it! I designed this and based the whole box around complimentary colors to go with it!
This leopard is the only thing that isn’t available on the Expressions Vinyl website! All the other vinyl you can still buy in case you need more, or didn’t get your hands on the July’s mystery box!
ALSO– I created 20 cut files that you got as bonus with the mystery box- You can purchase them in my shop– These are what I’m using on the projects below!
Okay! Let’s jump in! Wait . Jump out. I have a lot of behind the scenes tips that I’m sharing all week long on instagram (agirlandagluegun) So come follow along! IOKAY. Let’s jump in.
BUTTERFLY SIGN
- White glitter adhesive
- Butterfly cut file
The Mystery box comes with a white glitter adhesive (cause glitteramIright?)
I created this wood sign! I used plastic butterflies that I painted rainbow to make the statement piece. The cut file comes with 4 butterflies that you can size around the saying if you want to go that route.
State shirt
- Fiery Leopard Pattern
- NO cut file
Guess what? This is made without using a cutter! Easy peasy. You can use any fun patterned vinyl and any state and create your own shirts! (Check out my Disney shirts for another example of what you can do!)
Took a state a printed out- used it as a stencil- Cut out with scissors!
I also hand cut a little heart for my daughter’s mask!
If you need more fun project ideas on what to with patterned vinyls- go here!
Yay you are here
Etched vinyl is so fun! Looks like etched but no mess! BUT-It’s so hard to capture in real life! Take my word for it- in person it looks awesome!
The fun part about putting the yay on your day- it says yay on both sides
I also thought this cut file would look so cute on a rug or a big sign in your entry way!
Leopard print
- Leopard print cut file
- Opal (waterbottle)
- melon and silver glitter for facemask
I knew I wanted to dazzle up my facemask- So I added vinyl! this cut file comes with two patterns. Both look great by themselves- but you can overlap the big over the small dots to add some fun color options
Then I used the same cut file to add some of the opal vinyl to my cup. THIS OPAL! The cup is so gorgeous! It shimmers and shines! I tried to capture it in photos but they do not do it justice!
And since I love leopard so much- I made this cut file too!
Flamingo Bag
- Melon htv
- red htv
- yellow flocked
- I found the ice cream pattern in my stash -not in they mystery box!
- Flamingo cut file
If you know me- you know I love Flamingos! So I had to create a flamingo cut file!
Home Sweet Home sign
- Wood sign from Dollar store (painted over with black)
- white glitter adhesive
- gridded transfer tape
- home sweet home cut file
This one was crazy to weed- but so worth it!
Did you mirror?
- Mint Adhesive vinyl
- Did you mirror cut file
If you are like me- over 7 years cutting vinyl- I still forget to flip the image when cutting out HTV! GAH! So I made a cut file for a friendly reminder!
Stuck this right to the lid! Fingers crossed it works!
Unicorn
- Unicorn patterned vinyl
- Unicorn Cut file
- white glitter
- blue adhesive
- Dollar store wood sign
I used the fun unicorn pattern vinyl to cover up the dollar store decor- an easy way to make it gorgeous! Added some tassels for a perfect true believers sign!
Art Apron
- Art cut file
- Red, melon and yellow from adhesive box
- Light and dark blue from my vinyl stash (but also from ExpressionsVinyl
I actually have a tutorial coming at you later on how to create the shadow effect with basically any cut file or font! Stay tuned
Some of the cut files that are included but I didn’t get around to make projects with (yet!) are…
wildflower
Caffeinate and Dominate (soda pop or coffee!)
Be Happy
Clipart! These are made specially to go with the blackboard HTV! So fun on a tote bag or pillow!
There is a cricut and a cameo cut file if you want to represent with a fun shirt
Makers gonna make
and the last one- I’m so excited for- a cut file so you can jazz up the lid of your vinyl cutter! I’m working on putting one on my silhouette cameo 4 lid! Grab this cut file here!
Even after making all these fun projects–I still have so much vinyl leftover! So many more things I can make! Make sure to check out Expressions Vinyl on facebook and instagram as well as me (a girl and a glue gun) So you can see more projects we are sharing around the July Mystery Box!
