If you have a crayon collection and lots of fabric scraps, this craft is for you! We have a fun art on the go project using this crayon roll craft with a little twist!
While my kids grow up, our crayon collection also continues to grow. These crayon rolls are great for storage, and we became big fans of them! We love this craft so much that I decided to come up with my own twist on it. Now this crayon roll can be art on the go! I decided to add a little tablet with my crayon roll, and let me tell you, it’s a game changer! It’s so easy to store and so convenient! Just throw it in your purse and take it literally anywhere. Car rides, flights, ceremonies, the grocery store, etc. Kids love it, adults love it, it’s seriously perfect for everyone.
Supplies for your crayon roll
- Fabric
- Button
- Elastic
- Sewing supplies
- Iron
- Tablet
- And of course, Crayons!
I got these tablets from Walgreens when there was a sale, but I know Dollar Tree also has small tablets. I also found some on amazon that you can view here.
How to make the crayon roll
Step 1: Start with some fabric
This craft is so fun because you get to customize it to your liking! I started with floral fabric, but there are lots of good options as well.
Step 2: Folding
Fold down the top section and sew.
Step 3: Turn it right side out
Make sure to iron your fabric!
Iron the remaining edges up! Just a half inch.
Step 4: Sew the bottom
Sew along the bottom folded edge.
Take it up about 2/3 of the way as seen below:
Step 5 : Elastic
Add your elastic for the closure
Then sew all the way around your fabric.
Step 6 : Making your crayon slots
Take a measuring tape and pins and measure how far apart you want the crayons. I just did 1 inch per slot.
Make sure to leave plenty of room for your tablet.
Step 7 : Adding your tablet
To cover the tablet, I just used hot glue and covered it with extra fabric. You can also use different fabric if you want to go the mix and match route.
Step 8:Add the button
Fill with crayons and tablet and roll up, THEN sew on your button. This just helps with the correct distance the button needs to be from the elastic.
Color away
Now you have the cutest crayon roll! These also make the sweetest handouts, especially for teachers.
Once you get it down, it’s so easy to make. This was just a few I grabbed from my collection!
