How to Make Puffy Paint Spring Cookies
1. Cut Out Cookie Shapes
Start by drawing cookie shapes on cardboard or cardstock and cutting them out. I have a basic spring template HERE.
Fun spring shapes include:
- Easter eggs
- Flowers
- Bunnies
- Butterflies
- Hearts
You can also create classic round “sugar cookies.”
2. Decorate with Puffy Paint Frosting
Now the fun begins! Once everythign is ready, I take scissors and snip just the corner of each baggie. Kids can spread or pipe the puffy paint onto their cookie shapes just like frosting.

Encourage them to create fun designs like:
- Swirls
- Polka dots
- Stripes
- Zigzags
- Rainbow frosting
The thick paint will create a puffy frosting effect.

When the bags were almost gone, I just squeezed all the leftovers and swirled it around! It looked like a tie-dye effect!

3. Add Extra Decorations
While the paint is still wet, kids can add craft decorations like:
- Glitter
- Sequins
- Colored paper sprinkles
This makes the cookies look even more festive.

4. Let the Cookies Dry
Allow the cookies to dry flat overnight. As they dry, the puffy paint will harden and keep its raised texture.
Once dry, the cookies will look like adorable frosted spring treats.
The puffy paint is squishable and so fun to feel!

Ideas for Playing with Your Fake Cookies
After the cookies are finished, kids can use them for imaginative play!
Try:
- Setting up a pretend bakery
- Playing spring tea party
- Using them in a play kitchen
- Creating a spring craft display
Kids love showing off their decorated cookies.
