- Leaves
- crayons (first project)
- markers (second project)
- paint (third project)
- paintbrush (third project)
- copy paper
Leaves will become brittle once they start drying, so this craft is best to do these art projects with fresh leaves! I recommend going for a walk to pick all the different leaves and flowers then immediately start creating your artwork! I just walked around the park to gather my leaves. So many fun options and variety and I didn’t have to feel guilty about stealing any off of my neighbor’s yards!

Leaf Art Number 1: Crayon Rub
This one is perfect for the littles! If they can handle crayons, they can handle this craft!

Lay out some leaves in whatever arrangement you want. place your paper over it and then lightly rub over the paper with a crayon. You can peel the paper off the crayon and use the side of the crayon to cover more area in a shorter amount of time.

Leaf Art Number 2: Marker prints

This is a step up from crayons since you have to work a little faster because you don’t want to let the marker dry!
Take your marker and rub over the front of the leaf. Put a scratch piece of paper underneath so you can go all the way to the edges with the marker.

Turn the leaf over place it on your paper and press. I rub it all directions to make sure I got a good print.

When you peel up the leaf, you are left with a fun leaf print that has lots of great details!

Leaf Art Number 3: Painted prints
This painted art project can be done by many different ages- especially the older crowd! The paint does get a little messy! These look so gorgeous that you might even want to frame a few to hang up!

I first tried this with a paint brayer. (a mini roller to spread the paint) It was not a great turnout. The leaves are a bit too small and dont’ “hold still” while I’m trying to add paint! So we opted for a paintbrush!
Just spread paint on the leaves. Make sure to do this on a paint canvas or an extra piece of paper! You don’t want too much paint or you won’t see any of the leaf print!

Once it’s covered, you place it facedown on your paper. For the paint, I used cardstock since it’s thicker. I found it was easier to press the leaves if you placed a piece of paper or paper towel over the leaves and pressed. You won’t have to worry about getting paint on your fingers.

The best part- the reveal! Peel up the leaves to reveal your print!

This side by side is the outline of the leaf I painted and then the print! I think the outline is just as cool! Have kids try painting over the leaf to create this cool outline effect!

I only used black paint- but try a variety of different paint colors!

What to do with these leaf prints?
My kids love to create, but then I’m just left with all sorts of art projects! So I do love to have a purpose! We turned these into bookmarks, and thank you cards, and you could even frame these prints!
Too busy to get crafting today? No problem! Pin this post to remind yourself about this project later! Sharing my projects helps me reach more people, allowing me to continue sharing free content!
