How to create bubble art
I have 3 different techniques! You can try them all OR pick what one is best for the ages of your kids! But before we get to methods, let’s go over supplies
What you need to create this bubble artwork
- bubble solution (store-bought or make your own)
- food coloring or acrylic paint
- cardstock
- straw
- bubble blower want
How to make your own bubble solution!
Making your own bubble solution is super easy! You just need two things
- Blue Dawn dish soap
- water
You must mix them together. The portions are a little trial by error. For a cup of water, I add about 2 TBS dish soap. Stir together and then test if you can get bubbles to form!

If your dish soap is ULTRA or not the blue kind, you might need to adjust it!
NOTE: This recipe is to create foamy bubbles for crafting, not big bubbles that float around!
How to make colorful bubbles!
We have to add in some coloring so our bubbles will show up on our paper! We poured our bubble solution (either the store-bought or homemade) into a bowl and added a few drops of food coloring!

The more food coloring, the darker the color! But you don’t want to add too much because you don’t want it to stain! We didn’t have any stains since it’s pretty diluted!

We also mixed some acrylic paint with the bubble solution and that worked as well! Just a squirt or two of paint and mix! It makes the bubbles more saturated looking versus watercolor! (I’ll show you more on technique 3!)

Once all the colors are ready, it’s time to start making this fun kids’ craft.
Bubble Artwork Method 1
Method one is the least messy so if you have little kids, this one might be a good choice.
Place a straw into the bowl and BLOW! You want the bubbles to reach up over the bowl.

When the bubbles are nice and tall, you just lay the paper over and get the bubbles to pop!

You keep blowing bubbles and placing the paper to overlap the bubbles and colors! You can use a large bowl to cover more area of the paper!

This technique works great if you want to control where certain colors are going!

Bubble artwork method 2
Using the same bowls in method one, we just took a bubble wand dip them in the bowls with the food coloring and blew the bubbles directly onto the paper! The bubble solution does drip when doing this, so I would recommend this as an outdoor activity!
We just held each picture but you could tape it to the wall or clip it up on a cardboard box to hold it in place!

This artwork had a lot more splatters and fewer circle shapes!

Bubble artwork method 3
This one was my personal favorite!

This idea is the messiest, but super cool!
We did acrylic paint in the bubble solution and as I mentioned above, it made it really saturated. We ended up just blowing big bubbles and scooping them up with our hands.
To get the bubbles to not pop when we touched them, we rubbed the bubble solution on our hands.

We just piled the bubbles up on the paper. They sat on top of the paper and slowly popped and created the coolest effect!

Since we are using paint, you can see them on colored paper very well!

Now that you have all don’t let your creativity stop! You can cut these up and turn them into notecards, cootie catchers, or paper airplanes, or add some googly eyeballs for a cute SPLAT monster!
