I ran out kitchen sponges when stamping a candy corn for this craft– and used a magic eraser instead! I’ve also stamped with potatoes and apples! Be creative!

How to Make a Sponge Stamped Poinsettia
1. Cut the Sponges
Cut the sponge into simple petal or teardrop shapes. These will be used to stamp the poinsettia petals. You can cut several sizes to add dimension to the flower.

2. Dip and Stamp
Pour red paint onto a plate. Have kids gently dip the sponge petal into the paint and stamp it onto the paper in a circular pattern, forming the poinsettia petals.

I stamped two different techniques.
First, I stamped all the petals together to create the flower. Just stamping around in a circle.

The second technique was to stamp all the petals separately to cut out and arrange later after they dried.

3. Add Layers
Let kids stamp additional petals to make the flower fuller. Overlapping petals create a beautiful poinsettia look and help kids experiment with design.

You can also go in and details with paint to create dimension.

4. Create the Center
Use a cotton swab or fingertip dipped in white or yellow paint to add small dots in the center of the flower—this detail really brings the poinsettia to life!

I also tried glue and beads and even added yellow buttons to the middle! Let’s the kids be creative as possible!

5. Cut out petals and arrange flowers
You can leave your flowers as a big sheet of paper, but I cut mine out so they would look more like flowers and be easier to use around the house!
You also will need to cut out the flower petals if you stamped them individually. I glued them onto a circle of scrap paper to create the flowers.

6. Finish with Leaves
I also Stamped green sponge shapes to create poinsettia leaves.
Add glitter while the paint is wet if you want extra holiday sparkle.
