- White craft eggs
- Crayola washable markers
- Plastic wrap
- Spray bottle
I found plastic white craft eggs and both Walmart and Hobby Lobby!
How to Make a Watercolor Knockoff Egg Craft
1. Lay out Plastic Wrap
Stretch out a piece of plastic wrap onto your counter. Make sure it’s big enough to
You can make:
- One large egg
- Several smaller eggs
- Different patterned eggs
2. Color the Plastic Wrap
Take your washable marker and color onto the plastic wrap. I kept the design in the center. No need to go all the way to the edges.

You can try:
- Stripes
- Polka dots
- Zigzags
- Color blending
- Ombre effects
There’s no right or wrong way to color.
TIP: Too many colors might turn muddy and/or brown!
3. Add Water
Taking a squirt bottle and put it on mist mode. Lightly spritz the plastic wrap coloring with water. You don’t want to make it dripping wet- just a little water will work!

4. Place egg in the middle.
While the plastic wrap is wet, put the egg right in the middle and fold up the edges to wrap around the egg.

5. Smoosh
Take your fingers and press the watercolor around the egg. If there is lots of water, it will spread easily and little smooshing is needed. If you have light mist of water, you might need to help move the color around.

6. Unwrap
Carefully set the egg on the table and pull back the plastic wrap to unwrap the egg

7. Let Dry
If the egg has any white spots, you can press the saran wrap back on to any empty spots. Set egg on a drying rack or paper towel to dry. The plastic wrap will stay wet for a while, so it will dry faster if you move it away.

Repeat with different colors and designs!

You’ll now have bright, colorful watercolor eggs ready to display!
Tips for the Best Results
A few simple tricks make this craft even more fun:
Use no water
I tried not adding any water- since the markers are pretty liquid. It did transfer the design almost exactly with no smudging. So it’s a fun option to try.
Try white crayons
Color onto the eggs with white crayon first so the marker won’t stick to the designs
Try tape designs
Place strips of tape on the paper before painting, then peel them off when dry for cool patterns.
Use metallic markers afterward
Gold or silver lines add a fun finishing touch.
