Time to get Crafty with Puffy Painted Rocks: The Perfect DIY Project for kids of all ages!

This project is so stinking fun! Gather up loads of rocks because you can create for HOURS! Since Easter is coming up, we picked egg shaped rocks and decorated them as we would easter eggs- but we also just doodled lots of fun designs!

So gather up your supplies and let’s jump in!

This project is part of my Kid’s Craft camp! Make sure to click on the image to see all 50 craft ideas!
Supplies needed to paint rocks
- Rocks
- Paint (I used acrylic) this is optional! See step 3
- Puff paint
Optional: Instead of puff paint, you can use paint pens!

How to decorate puffy Painted rocks
Step 1: Gather rocks
Part of this craft is heading outside to gather up some nice smooth rocks! Take a bucket or a sack and have kids pick out any fun rocks that catch their eye!

Step 2: Clean rocks
I just stuck all the rocks in my sink and rinsed them off! You just want to get any dirt off of them. Let dry.
Step 3: Paint base layer
This part is optional. We wanted to make these rocks look like Easter eggs, so we wanted a base coat in all the spring colors. But you might want to start with just the rock. If you opt to paint them, let them dry before starting the next step.

(You can decide if you want these painted front and back!)
Step 4: Decorate
Like I already mentioned, we were going to Easter egg vibes- but you can decorate these rocks in so many ways! Add your name, turn one into a burger, draw a dinosaur! I do have some drawing prompts we keep on hand in case kids get stuck on what to make!

If you mess up, or hate the way it looks, just take a paper towel and wipe it off!
The puff paint stays puffy as it dries creating a fun 3-D look and texture!
It does take 24 hours to dry, depending on how warm the room is!

Step 5: Hide them or display them!
The fun about decorating rocks, is the hiding of them! My town even has a Facebook page dedicated to finding and hiding rocks!
You can use these like easter eggs and hide them around your yard, OR you can take them out to parks or playgrounds and leave them for others to find!

If you have leftover puffy paint- try making some window clings!
