How to make Black Scratch Art
This kid’s craft is so easy- but you will have a blast creating it, and then drawing with it! Like two crafts in one!
Step 1: Color

Take your crayons and cover your cardstock completely. Push hard. The wax of the crayons is what makes the paint come off the paper. You can add lots of colors to give the scratching a cool effect. Or just color with one color! Just cover that paper completely!

Step 2: Paint

You take your acrylic paint and add a drop or two of dish soap. This helps make the paint super easy to scratch off! Start by covering your sheet with a nice light coat of paint. Let dry.

After it dries, I add another coat!

It doesn’t take a lot of paint to cover it, and if you do two thin coats it will dry pretty quickly with no blobs!!
Step 3: Scratch!
After it dries, it’s ready to roll! Grab something that you can scratch with (like a toothpick) and start creating something amazing! Between the waxy crayon and the dawn dish soap, the paint layer just comes off so easy and reveals little peaks of the fun colored crayons underneath!

You can fold these over and send it as a notecard!

Black Scratch Variations!
You could use any color of paint! The black really helps the colors pop but you could also do a red for valentine’s decor or a pretty teal paint will be super fun. Just keep that in mind when coloring with the crayons. If you use blue crayons on the bottom layer, blue paint over top is probably not a great idea!
You can just purchase scratch paper- Here is a great set off of Amazon! (but where is the fun in that!)
