Last year I posted this how to make wood frames–One of my favorite projects! I have been whipping them up for every baby shower, birthday, gift idea, giveaway, empty wall space in my house. I seriously have made over 45! (you can head HERE to see the how to! )
I even did a facebook live video with the husband…
And a few months ago I walked through our town’s parade of homes and saw lots of these frames…but with a chunky frame! So I decided to take it on and I love them even more than the original!
They are made basically the same way—but an added step! (so Make sure to read this how to post to see what wood I buy and what tools I used!)
So this is the lay out on the original frames…
But on these frame you are going to turn it and lay them flat. They are going to be almost flush with the main part of the frame.
I totally don’t use a ruler…I just line it up and make marks and chop them as I go.
(I always paint or stain my project first before assembling because it’s so much easier to do it piece by piece!)
Since the frame is bulky and big I make sure to use wood glue–
You will also need the super long staples in the stapler gun. You want them long enough to go into the frame and wood. I staple 2-3 on each side.
Then I take the next set of wood for the frames. This time they are up and not flush. Then I wood glue those as well and then add staples (I make mental notes and where I put first set of nails so I don’t hit them when I add nails with this final frame.Â
I totally just make my frames so they are flush with each side…
But IÂ did get all fancy and did my corner like a real professional –angled and everything. So that is totally an option. I did think it took way more time and thought–I like to exert as little as possible of those.Â
I attach a sawtooth hanger  and make sure it’s in the MAIN piece of wood.
and Then you proceed and decorate them all different kind of ways! And you can get so many different looks by swapping out the colors and stains! The creativity can go wild with these!
This is a cute Heidi Swapp word from MichaelsÂ
This is the one that hangs in my bedroom….(both frames the same color)

I made this using vinyl as a stencil! See how to here!
(You can grab this free cut file HERE)
The frames are so chunky they are perfect to add some fun metal brackets
This was above my toilet (before fire) But I might recreate it! I love it so much!Â
I actually wrote a whole post about tools that CRAFTERS would need! Check it out HERE!
