I found the cutest variety of kids’ crafts at Hobby Lobby! They had a something for all ages and skill levels! I saw this activity Thanksgiving placemat that would just make my tablescape extra darling and help entertain the kids!

But I didn’t want just to set a box of crayons down- I wanted something super cute for them! So I came up with a darling pumpkin pie-shaped box to store them in, and you can easily make one too! Look how cute my Thanksgiving table is going to be.

Let me show you how to make one!
What You’ll Need:
I grabbed everything at Hobby Lobby:
- A small round cardboard box (found this one at Hobby Lobby by the wrapping paper)
- Orange and silver paint
- Paintbrushes
- Craft knife
- Whipped clay or cotton balls (for “whipped cream”)
- Glue or tape
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Activity placemat

How to Make Your Pumpkin Pie Crayon Holder:
Shape Your Pie:
The round box was a little tall for a pie shape, so I measured around the bottom part and trimmed off about half of the box. Make sure that the lid part isn’t wider than the bottom.

Paint the Pie Filling:
Paint the top of the box orange to look like pumpkin pie filling. I painted the bottom section silver to create a pie tin but you can paint it a light brown to look like crust! You can also paint the edge of the top part to look like the edge of the pie crust!

Let Dry:
The paint needs to be dry before you add the whip cream.
Create the Whipped Cream
There are a few different options of whipped cream. Glue a small piece of felt, a pom-pom, or a cotton ball right in the center of the “pie” for whipped cream.
I did find this whipped clay that was perfect for this project! It was pretty easy to use. It comes with different-sized icing tips and you just screw them directly on the bottle.

Then you are ready to add your faux whipped topping (the best part of the pumpkin pie in my honest opinion!)

The only downside is that it does take a few days to dry. So plan accordingly!

Fill with Crayons
Once everything is dry, fill your pumpkin pie box with crayons or colored pencils. Place it in the middle of the kids’ table so everyone can color Thanksgiving placemats, napkin rings, or cards while they wait for dinner.

Craft Tips
- Create different pies! Cherry, apple and blueberry.
- Have kids help paint and decorate their own pie.
- You can also fill the pumpkin pie box with treats for a cute gift idea!
- Use the faux whipped cream as a placecard holder.
