The start of the school year is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking of creative back-to-school gift ideas to surprise your child. This article will provide step-by-step instructions to make your own back-to-school gift, giving you the opportunity to show your child (OR TEACHER!) how much you care. It will be a perfect, thoughtful gesture that will make the transition to school a bit easier.! Let’s get started and make a fun and unique gift tag for your special someone.
What’s great about this free printable is that it is generic enough that you can use it with any fun gift you want!
How to use Back to School Gift Tag
I actually created this back-to-school tag because I always like to gift my kids and my teacher friends some fun stuff that first week of school! (Mostly because I’m so excited to be back to a regular schedule!)
My kids are teens now and miss out on all the fun school supplies, so I created a fun basket of things to get them ready and happy for the first week of school.
What to put in a back-to-school gift basket for teens
Here is what I included:
- Chapstick
- Hand sanitizer
- treats
- face mask
- blemish circles
- bath bomb
- fun school supplies
- gum
- stickers
- a gift card to the local soda shop
You could also include any fun travel-size items like deodorant, dry shampoo, lotion etc.
I actually will give this to them the day before school starts so they can use the facemask and bath bomb!
You can also add this tag to some lotion, a gift card, or even a loaf of bread to make a perfect gift for those teachers!

How to use these free printables
Printing them out
If you are looking for a great printer to use – I love my HP! I wrote up a whole post why The reasons I love the printer. This post also shows how you can make sure you are getting the best prints by adjusting your settings!
IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PRINTER: You can also upload the files to Staples or office max and have them print them! Sometimes the local library has a printer for public use!
Cutting out the printables:
I love Fiskars! Nice sharp scissors or paper cutters will get you the best-looking edges! Almost 90% of the time use my Paper Trimmer to get nice straight cuts! It just looks so much more professional! You can also upload the image into your Silhouette or Cricut software and have your electronic cutter cut it out for you! I have a post if need help with the Print and Cut feature!
I also have a bit of an obsession with this punch that rounds the corners. It makes everything looks nice!Â
Glue:
If you want to attach the bracelets to the printable-I personally love glue dots! They are round and clear and removable so you should be able to get the tag off easily.
Ribbon:
I used a combination of ribbon, ric rac, and twine with my tags. I just thought they looked so fun and colorful! But a simple twine or yarn would work just as well!
