Are You Ready for the Ultimate Spooky Countdown? Unwrap the Surprises of this creepy DIY Haunted house Halloween Advent Calendar to get ready all of October.

You might remember this calendar from my Christmas Grinch Advent Calendar I made last year. It is such a great size for an Advent calendar that I knew I wanted to create a Halloween-themed one! (It is my favorite holiday!)

So I grabbed all the supplies and made the Halloween Advent Calendar – the perfect way to countdown to the most thrilling night of the year. It will have you eagerly awaiting each day of October, as you uncover a new surprise behind each door.
I had to go back and photograph it because the black background made it so you can’t see all the details!

Supplies to make a haunted advent calendar
- Wood House
- Black paint
- Cardboard
- Stickers
- little pumpkins (dollar tree)
- Bat rings (dollar tree)
- Transparency vellum paper
- Printables (down below)
- Hot glue gun
- Fake spider web
The fun part about this advent calendar is you can create and decorate it however you want! This list of supplies is what I used, but you can customize yours as needed. Just go browse around the Dollar Tree and grab anything little that fits the theme of a haunted house!
How to make a Halloween Advent Calendar
Step 1: Spray Paint
Spray painting the calendar is the easiest way to get it covered fast! You can definitely use a paint brush and do it by hand as well. I spray-painted it black, but brown would look awesome too.

Step 2:Windows and door
My original plan was to hand-paint the details. But 25 doors…I ended up going to a plan B! I took my ipad and drew up all the windows and a big front door! I added these as a printable down below so you can use them if you want!
Just print them and cut them out!

You can mod podge these on, but I used my hot glue gun because I wanted all the glue gun hairs all over so it would look like spider webs!

Step 3: Roof
I ripped up a cardboard box into irregular squre shapes and hot glued them to the roof to make it look like roof tiles. I ended up brushing over them with a little black paint so they didn’t stand out as much.

Step 5: Details
Then came my favorite part: all the little embellishments!
Candles
I rolled up some white paper and used hot glue to make some wax drips to create some fake candles. I hot glued them all in the attic. Using cream paint, I painted it all to tie in the hot glue.

Stickers
Using a sticker set from Dollar tree, I cut out around them and place them in different spots. There was a bat, a potion bottle, and the skull.

Bats
Another thing I grabbed from the dollar tree was bat rings. I snipped off the ring part and hot-glued it to a wire. Hot gluing them to the back of the calendar makes it appear like bats are flying around the top.

Gravestones/boards
Using the same Cardboard box I used for the roof, I cut out some tombstones for the sides of the house.

I also cut out some strips of the cardboard to create some “boards” to go across the windows. I did draw in a few boards but I wanted a little more 3-D element!

Ghosts
The goal was to make the ghosts a little see-through, so I cut them out of vellum and added some eyes with a marker.

The finished Haunted house

Didn’t it turn out cute yet creepy?! I did end up putting some fake spiderwebs around it to create an even more spooky effect.

I drew up this moon and tree and it’s also a printable included with the windows printable!

A little see-through ghost coming out of the chimney.

You can see the little bats coming off the roof.
