Kids will love to help create this DIY Pumpkin Pie Garland that is perfect for your Thanksgiving decorations.

I am trying really hard to not skip straight from Halloween to Christmas! Thanksgiving deserves more than just a day! So we are creating a totally cute decoration for fall that kids will love to create!

Supplies to make Pumpkin Pie Garland
- white paper plates (I like chinet)
- Paint
- Cotton Balls
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paint Brush
- Twine
- Tape
The paint colors I used was an orange, red, blue, and a tan for the crust.

How to make DIY Pumpkin Pie Garland
Step 1: Paint the pie
To make this darling Pumpkin Pie garland, you start by adding paint to your plate. Don’t add too much or it will take a long time to dry. It’s better to add paint as needed versus trying to take off excess paint! Spread it around with a paintbrush filling in the whole plate.

Step 2: Paint on the crust.
Using the tan color, paint the lip of the paper plate. I did squiggles to try to make it look like the pie crust.
Step 3: Let dry
Step 4: Cut out pie shapes.
There are two ways you can do this. You can cut your plate and have 8 pie pieces or 6 pie pieces. I liked the look of the size of the 6-piece pie, so I cut my paper plate in half, and then cut each half into thirds. If you wanted to cut 8 pieces, you could cut it in half and then cut each half in half. And then cut each of quarter into halves. This is a great opportunity to teach kids about quarters and fractions!

I also trimmed off the edge of the crust, but this part is optional!
Step 5: Add Whipped Cream
It wouldn’t be pumpkin pie without whipped cream (basically the best part!) I added a little glue and put a cotton swab on the each piece of paper plate pie! I took my scissors and trimmed off the cotton ball’s top so it wasn’t so cube-shaped.

Create the garland
Once the pie pieces are ready, you can flip them over and tape a long piece of twine or ribbon to the backs to create the garland! Putting the tape or hot glue up closer to the top of the pie will keep it from flipping over!

Hang up your garland and enjoy the cuteness!

VARIATIONS of the pumpkin pie garland:
Try other fun flavors of pie! We made a cherry and blueberry one as well! We painted in swirls to create the berries.

You can paint any fun decoration for your crust over top! We painted a lattice decoration!

Pie Placecards
Instead of creating a garland, you could leave off the twine and add on the name of each person coming over for Thanksgiving! These make just the cutest little place cards for your dinner table!

For the classrooms or a crowd
If you are making these for a classroom or with a big group of kids, you could precut the paper plate and give each child a piece of pie to decorate! It would make some darling decor for a bulletin board.
