LITTLE CHRISTMAS TREES DIY
I have been seeing these little trees EVERYWHERE. and let’s face it. I’m too cheap to buy something at full price when I know I can make it for cheaper. So let’s make it for Cheaper! I created this on my Instagram stories! If you aren’t following me- you should be! We have lots of fun over there crafting and making crap! FOLLOW AGAAGG ON INSTAGRAM HERE.
SUPPLIES:
- Tin Cans
- Branch or Green pick from craft store
- ribbon
- black and orange spray paint
- a Rock (to weight it down)
- Floral Foam
- Spanish Moss
DISTRESS TIN CANS
First up- you need to eat your vegetables. Or make taco soup. Because you need some cans! I ripped off the paper and cleaned them out. The were a little too bright and shiny for me so I added some orange and black spray paint to distress it. (Spray a little orange and take a paper towel and lightly wipe it off. Then spray a little black and lightly wipe it off. I wanted the spray paint to sit in the grooves of the can)
TIN CAN PREP
I headed outside and found some big rocks to put at the bottom of each can. They need some weights at the bottom so when the branches are in, they won’t tip over for being top heavy.
I ran to the dollar store and found some floral foam. I cut it up and puzzle pieced it into the can. You want it sandwiched in there pretty tightly so the branches won’t sway when inside. I don’t have any big pretty trees to snip off branches from. So I headed to Hobby Lobby and found a green pick. All Christmas was 50% off so I snagged it for $4.50 (and made all three cans with one pick!) They have lots of options-some with pinecones, flocked, even berries! You can pick whatever you fancy. I just ripped them apart to create lots of stems from my one pick!
I added spanish moss around the base. (It’s what I had on hand) but you could add some burlap or stones inside too. They actually have some pretty smooth rocks at the dollar store!
You can decorate your tin cans however you want. Paint, bells, ribbon, burlap, pom poms, wooden snowflakes! Even vinyl! You can let your creativity run wild!
Then you can just place them where you like! These cute little trees can add so much Christmas fun to any section of your house!
What I love about this project is that you really customize it however you want! Big cans, small cans, painted, distressed, ribbon, embellishments. flocked, or berries! No two would be alike! SO–if you make one–I would love for you to show me! I love seeing all the creativity!
