my son needed a lamp in his room
and me…being me….looked around for one…
and gasped when the cheapest one i could find was UGLY. and not that cheap.
and i wasn’t wasting money on something will probably be hit with a swordbatfootballanyball mutiple times.
so i hit up the thrift stores…..
and found this gem (completely ugliness)
man was she uuuuuggggglllllleeeeey.
$3 bones. couldn’t resist…i knew that a simple lamp redo would make her pretty…(and turn her into a him)
i sprayed the base with white primer first…i always use white primer….having a white base just makes the next color you put on really POP. (especially or yellow and red…and pink…and sometimes light blue.)
the lampshade…
you spread it out and roll the lampshade and mark where you need to cut..
it’s going to look like this…
and then you hot glue. i have these glow in the dark glue sticks…and if you use them..the then lamp “powers” them…and then you turn the lamp off and it still glows a little. my kid loves it! you could use it write a name..or a batman logo…
so much better!!!
he made it his own:
Make sure to check out these superhero peg dolls HERE

Taking the time to comment because this is JUST SO COOL! I love the fabric, and I NEED glow in the dark glue now! What a great update, honestly, I never would have given that before lamp a second look! You are wonderful, amazing and inspirational! Do you think we should meet? 🙂 Ha ha ha! I can’t wait to see what you do at the dentist office! 🙂

Two things:
LOVE the lamp.
Where did you get the plank backdrop?
Guess it’s three: My daughter also feels the need to write her name on everything… drives me batty when I work hard and then it is defaced! lol
Kimbo says
it’s from bubblegum backdrops!

Two thoughts on your awesome post: It is amazing to me that you could look at that granny lamp and see little boy, but it turned out perfect! It is also amazing to me that you could take a picture and make a joke out of him scratching your newly completed project (it’s totally something my boys woud do). I think I would cry…and then in a month take picture and make a joke. And another thought is the glow in the dark glue is very cool.

Love it! I always gravitate towards the plain white boring lampshades for the boys’ rooms, because they usually (always) screw them up somehow, so why bother? But THIS? This they would totally own and take care of. Thanks for sharing!

Super cool! My 10-year old son gave it a big “COOL!” and even my 14 year old daughter said, “Cool.”

Very cool!!

I bet your son is glad for that under coat of white so his name didn’t turn out pink!
I agree with all the other comments. I’m amazed that you could start with that lamp and see a boy thing in there. And THANK YOU for sharing and inspiring us!!
Kassi @ Truly Lovely says
I need to invest in some white primer… I always skip that step, and you can tell… sheesh. haha

Good post. I learn something totally new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon everyday.
It’s always interesting to read through content from other authors and use something from their websites.
Davina says
Amazing, such a great idea! Can I ask how much fabric (yards) did you need to buy for this?
Kimbo says
each lamp shade is different…cause of the size and shape. the more drum shape it is means you won’t have to have such a curve. I would do a yard if you don’t mind extra. you could trace it out on paper first and measure that way if you don’t want lots of leftovers!
Adriana says
I was looking for this idea for long time. I finally did my project yesterday and it came out very good. Only one suggestion: make sure you iron the fabric before you start your project. Thank you for your idea.
Anissa says
I am currently trying to attempt this. How were you able to cut the fabric to fit so well without messing it up or having too much or not enough fabric?
Thanks!!!
Kimbo says
I lay it out on the fabric and move it and trace the bottom and top. I cut larger than needed and trim down. You can use a scrap piece as well to get a good pattern!
