Check out this Rental-friendly wall decor- DIY painted wall arch that is removable! Perfect for dorm rooms at college!
When my daughter moved into her first apartment, we had to figure out how to put personality into it without doing anything permanent to it! I came up with the coolest rental-friendly wall decor! Painted wall arch. Bonus because it’s super cheap and you can customize it however you want!
Supplies for DIY wall decor
- Dollar Tree shelf/drawer liner -3 will make one big wall arch
- Paint
You can use any paint- but I like using the wall paint samples you can get at home depot! It covers the laminate so well and you can get the exact color you want!
How to make the wall arch
Lay the shelf liner onto a paint tarp. The last 5-8 inches are a little smooshed from being rolled. I cut them because they crinkle a little when applied on the wall.
Paint. You can see brush strokes so I try to make sure I go in the same direction. This paint covers so well. You need one coat. Let dry and then a light 2nd coat to cover any spots you missed!
After it dries, you can trim out the arch. I lay the two panels down right sides together, and cut a circle for the top.
How to apply Diy Wallpaper
I use painter’s tape to position it exactly where I want it on the wall. Then I reach up and peel off the backing as I smooth out the front. It’s the same technique as applying peel-and-stick wallpaper.
This is how I assemble a basic arch. From the baseboard up it’s about 5 1/2 feet tall.
But as you can see below, you can do all sorts of different combinations! I painted a set for my daughter and she put hers up in her bathroom like this:
The Green arch above her toilet is just one strip of the dollar tree laminate
Is it removable?
It is! We just moved my daughter home and peeled it right off! 8 months in a bathroom with humidity from the shower and it held up so great and came off so easy! I move the rainbow decal from my craft room to my daughter’s room. They hold up well!
You could think outside the box and cut out all sorts of fun shapes and designs to decorate walls with! Put them as a headboard, behind a dresser, peeking up from behind the couch, or just a focal piece on the wall!
You could even put them up horizontally around the room like these stripes!
