How to make a mess free paint canvas
Before you start: you need to cover your paper/canvas with some blobs of paint! I try to narrow down the paint colors so as kids squish and spread around you don’t end up with a brown piece of art! The more paint you add, the more fun it is to smoosh! (but you do have to take it out of the bag so don’t go crazy!)
Then you get zip it tight and let the kids squish. Poke, spread, slap–the plastic and the paint kind of feels like a stress ball of slime so it’s super fun to play around with it!
I was going for a galaxy color with this one:
If you have enough paint in there, you could have kids take their finger and move the paint around to draw pictures. You could see if they could write the letters of the alphabet or numbers if you wanting to turn this into a fun educational activity!
If you need to add more paint you can open and push in some paint- just be careful so paint doesn’t come out!
When your kiddo is done, It’s time to take it out of the bag! This is the only messy part- but it doesn’t involve your kiddo so it’s still a win! When you pull the bag straight up it makes a cool effect on the canvas. If you pull it out it takes off some paint. I took some scissors and just sliced down the side of the bag and then opened it wide to get the paper out. Laid it on an old Walmart sack to let dry and toss the bag! I got my scissors smudged a little paint on my fingers! Not too bad!
After your paint canvas is dry
You could just leave your canvas as is. You could add your child’s handprint. Add some stickers. You could use it to put some flowers on it.
and stuck them right on.

I do have an option b: you could add the vinyl as a stencil beforehand and let your kid paint over it and then peel off! If the vinyl doesn’t stick to the canvas, you could add some mod podge over the canvas first. And you will want to peel off the stencil while the paint is still wet!
I hope you loved this super easy, super cool activity! If you want more totally fun things to do with your kids, Check out my craft camp!
