So here are 15 fun Free Sidewalk Chalk Games & Activities to do with your kids and teens!
Have the kids trace around each other and then let kids decorate themselves! Add clothes, jewelry, accessories, etc! Or have them color themselves as a superhero!
CHECKERS game with sidewalk chalk
Checkers is such a fun game–even more fun when you are outside playing on the sidewalk. You can use painter’s tape to mark out your checker board. Then color on half the rocks with sidewalk chalk so you knew who’s is who’s. Or you could use painted rocks!
Grab some painter’s tape and tape off your sidewalk! Kids (and adults) can color it in and when you pull off the tape- it looks a like stained glass work of art!
WET SIDEWALK CHALK
Splash some water on the concrete AND THEN draw! The water turns the chalk into paint-like texture! Look how cool it looks after it’s dry! (do you see my daughter’s feet prints?)
TIC TAC TOE Game
Another awesome classic! Tic Tac Toe! This game can be played two ways! Throw a rock or bean bag onto the tic tac toe board and where it lands is where you draw your x (or o) First one that gets three in a row wins!
OR you can do the race game. Each team has one piece of chalk. The first players have to run down and mark a spot, run back and hand the chalk off–the next person runs down and marks the next spot! and repeat until someone wins!
Scavenger Hunt Activity with sidewalk chalk
Create an I spy with chalk! Your kids can gather up all the things and place them in the chalk circles! Or your kids might want to create this for others to do as they walk around the neighborhood!
You can use a measuring tape and mark each foot (up to 12!) We drew a line at 0 feet. We jumped from the line, and then did a running leap. It’s fun to see the difference. My son jumped around 5 feet from the line…about 10 feet with a running start!
We marked where everyone landed to see who was the winner.
This one is extra fun because we noticed some neighbors that were out for a walk that tried out our long jump!
Sidewalk chalk PICTIONARY
Have the kids take turns drawing things on the sidewalk while the others guess what it is! If you have enough people, you can make teams!
DOTS AND LINES GAME
Here is how you play the dots and lines game: Starting with an empty grid of dots, two players take turns adding a single horizontal or vertical line between two unjoined adjacent dots. The player who completes the fourth side of a 1×1 box earns one point and takes another turn. (A point is typically recorded by placing a mark that identifies the player in the box, such as an initial). The game ends when no more lines can be placed. The winner is the player with the most points.
Draw a fun path that the kids have to balance through! The curvier the better! You can time them to see how fast they can go on the chalk line without falling off.
We took our chalk and left some notes for dad, but how fun would it be to sneak over to a friend or neighbors house and leave some happy messages to brighten their day?
Take the classic board game and recreate it on the sidewalk!
Start out by Drawing a target with each ring having points. You can choose to throw a rock, a bean bag, or WATER BALLOONS for a fun twist! You could easily sneak some math into it-three tosses and they need to add them up. The person with the most points wins! (Oh. the things moms do to keep kids learning!)
Draw a fun mini golf course! Instead of holes, you can just draw a big star where the ball should stop!
It’s definitely our twist on shuffleboard since we are doing it on the sidewalk! We drew a goal for each side and rolled a marble (Best to do on a level part of the sidewalk) If the marble rolled through the goal we got one point. If the marble stopped IN the goal you got 5 points!
Twister is a Classic game! Draw the twister board (we used a cool whip lid to trace around it Then we just grabbed a spinner from the board game to play! (Make sure to be careful about falling on the concrete!)
ULTIMATE HOPSCOTCH activity with sidewalk chalk
Of course we had to include ULTIMATE HOPSCOTCH! I mean, hopscotch is super fun but adding all sorts of fun elements is even better! My daughter is the queen of drawing these! She always makes the coolest ones! She whipped up this fun one that included snakes and balloons and all sorts of fun stuff!
Things to add to your ultimate hopscotch:
- hop on one foot
- balance beam
- big jumps
- little jumps
- touch your toes
- jump three times on one spot
ADAPT IT: Try creating one for bikes or scooters to go through!
THIS HOPSCOTCH is one of my favorites!
This is something you can buy on Amazon! But it creates some of the coolest shapes!
Have your kids draw a scene that they can pose in for a super fun photo op!
This one is a fun one to do on a walking path! Draw out some activities to do at the end of the line! You could make these really long to add to the excitement!
I just saw a totally cute idea where someone put out a bucket of chalk and a sign that said to draw something pretty! I would have loved to decorate someone’s sidewalk!
For even more fun you could even do SIDEWALK PAINT
Make sure to leave me a comment if you have a fun game you play with chalk!
