Halloween Pumpkins with Vinyl!

Confession time: I hate carving pumpkins. As Jimmy Fallon would say–it’s EWWWWW. and messy. but mostly ewwww. So I love fun no carve pumpkin hacks so I don’t have to get my hands dirty! So today I’m going to teach you how to put vinyl on a pumpkin (it is a curved surface!)

First: Vinyl. I would recommend Permanent Adhesive Vinyl from Expressions Vinyl. If it’s going to be sitting outside you will want permanent (here in Idaho it could see lots of snow and wind in Fall!) You also need some Transfer Tape to get your vinyl from point A to point B!

I also like using fake pumpkins–I just love the idea that I can reuse them. BUT I did put vinyl on both real and fake pumpkins! (the Big orange pumpkin is real!)

How to apply vinyl to a curved Pumpkin

First: measure pumpkins. Keep in mind that if you have vinyl that wraps around–it will be hard to read- so if you are using a cut file with words–you want it to be able to fit it on all one side.

Cut out vinyl and weed away the excess vinyl.

Since it’s a curved surface–I find it so much easier to cut apart your design and apply it in sections. I would totally recommend NOT doing one solid design. It will be really hard to get it smooth with no wrinkles!

I just apply it section by section. go slow. work out any wrinkles or bubbles and then add your next section.

I have cut it both ways–into pieces down and into pieces across! Either way you always start in the middle and press the vinyl going out

It’s actually super similar to how I apply vinyl to a mug–go check that out here!

When applying–I took my fingernail and just slid it down the grooves of the pumpkin to get the vinyl really stuck on there around the curves!

Don’t rush it–it’s not super time consuming–but it’s not going to be as fast as putting vinyl on a flat surface!

and then you get to enjoy the pumpkins for the whole fall season

I made quite a few–this spiderweb is one of my favorites
