This year, we are making a fun ribbon streamer craft for the Fourth of July! They are the perfect thing for kids to twirl around while they’re waiting for the parade or fireworks!

Attention all DIY lovers! Are you looking for a fun and creative way to add flair to your summer? Look no further than this ribbon streamer craft. Adults and Kids alike will have fun shaking these streamers around! I have two options- so make sure to read all the way so you can figure out which one works best for you!
Just because we are making these red white and blue themed- doesn’t mean you can’t adapt! You can make one in your favorite color to use all summer long!
So grab your scissors and let’s get crafting!

Supplies to make a ribbon streamer
- Ribbon (double-sided) or crepe paper streamers
- Popsicle stick
- hot glue or tape
- marker or paint
- scissors
If you are making these with ribbon, you want to find a ribbon that has a pattern on both sides so it looks good as it twirls around. Avoid any ribbon with wired edges! I like 2 inches wide and 9-12 feet long.

How to make a ribbon streamer
I let the kids decorate the popsicle stick. You can use markers or paint depending on what you have!

Then I take the ribbon off the spool and wrap it around the top of the popsicle adding hot glue to keep it in place! I let the kiddo do a test run. The smaller the child, the shorter they will want their ribbon since their arms aren’t long enough to twirl it around without getting it tangled.
Once we have a length we like, I melt the ends of the ribbon with a candle to keep it from fraying!
It’s just that easy!

How to make a crepe paper streamer
We needed a quick craft to do a family reunion and we decided to make these but adapt them to make them a little more cost friendly! We did everything the same but swapped out ribbon for crepe paper streamer found in the party decoration section! All we spent was $10- a package of popsicle sticks and 8 colors of crepe paper and we were able to make SO many streamers! They were a huge hit!

If you decide to go the crepe paper route- you can make them as long as you want! You aren’t limited to what is on the ribbons pool. They are also really lightweight so they flow around really beautifully!
The downside is that they can tear easily and they will get ruined if the grass is damp! The ribbon streamers are more expensive but you can roll them up and reuse them year after year!
