This post is part of a super fun series…brought to you by Royal Design Studios and Porch #7daysofstencils
There is 7 days of fun stencil ideas from 7 bloggers!
My daughter needed a desk. so heigh ho. off to the thrift store I go.
for WEEKS. stalking craigslist. facebook. everything.
and then I happen chance decided to run in when I was supposed to be somewhere else and lo and behold…two perfect desks. both for $40. I sat there…forever. trying to talk myself into one…and out of buying both. (I mean I could just buy both and paint them both and sell one right?)
But since I have a 4-runner…and this giant heavy desk filled it ….I only could get one.
it was heavy. heavy. heavy. but so much potential!…see…
What I love is how clean and fresh it looks. This little girls room has so much fun color going on…(which I love. cause color is my jam)
but this desk as a little secret…
babam! Pull those drawers open for a fun pop!
the top drawer even has polka dots!
Since I was already in a chalk paint mode (and it’s been raining for weeks so spray paint was out ) I gave the desk some coats of white.
In between coats…I ran to Home Depot and scored some of the prettiest paint colors! (you can see the inspiration fabric) I already had a lighter pink and a darker blue that I used as well!
Each drawer got a few coats of one color…and then it was time to stencil!!!
I picked the French Floral Damask wall Stencil (see it HERE)
It’s super fun…but looks elegant when paired with the right colors!
There are tons of great how to stencil tips HERE But the main gist is…don’t get too much paint on your brush or roller! (cause it will bleed!)
and you are left with some AWESOME pops of surprise! Seriously…the hardest part is waiting for the paint to dry in between coats.
The knobs were kinda hideous…but since the desk was so old, normal pulls didn’t fit. So I just gave them a shot of white spray paint and hopefully they just kind of blend with the desk.
