my awesome bff got me these storage things for my birthday (i think she said it was from costco)
and i knew that they would be perfect to get my outrageous vinyl stash organized!!!!
i know what you are thinking…holy crap woman..do you really need all these for your vinyl.
and the answer is yes. yes i do.
the first thing i do when i get my vinyl (i buy the 12×24 cause it’s the best deal) i cut it down to 12×12. i like to lay them flat cause once your mat gets a little unsticky, and the vinyl is curled…it’s hard to keep it down as your cutting it.
so bin number 1: my BIG pieces of plain colored vinyl…
when i’m doing a big project i immediately have all the vinyl right there at my finger tips (it’s color coordinated too)
#3
one for my scraps (keep um!!!!!) if you need ideas on what to do with them..go HERE
I always keep my negative space…you never know when you need a k outline…or a peace sign outline. these come in really handy when you need to personalize a notebook or a book or something for your kids…
also..i do a few little projects that need like just an inch or two ….and i hate cutting into my big 12×12 for that. after i cut my vinyl on the cameo..i cut around all the words or design to save as much unused vinyl as possible before i peel off the negative space!
(all the words on my bins are made from scrap pieces!)
now…in here…i keep my ongoing list of colors i need. i try to always keep one 12×12 of each color…so when i notice that i’m getting low…i just jot it down. then when i see the list getting big…or i need a bunch of vinyl for a project and i’m already putting in an order..i know what i need!!!
expressions vinyl actually sells a little sample of each color for $4.

Number 5 isn't labeled! it should be WIP for works in progress. :p

Love love love your site. Been a long time follower. My question is…when you say you keep the negative space on the vinyl how do you do that? I peel it off so that I can get the transfer paper on but it sticks together and gets all jumbled. how do I get the image I want AND keep the negative space? If you covered this I missed it….anyway…love your storage, i keep mine all color coded in an exact bin like that but use baggies for scraps…good idea to label them. 🙂 Happy holidays!

i make sure the transfer tape covers only the piece i want to peel off—then i place it right on the whole thing and peel off carefully to only grab the right image leaving the negative space–it doesn't work with super detailed stuff– it's got be a nice clean cut to start with! good luck!
