stocking hop

Over at the Expressions Vinyl Facebook Page they are having a rock your stockings contest! People can upload a picture of a stocking they fancied up using vinyl for a chance to win a gift card to Expressions! And they asked some of their favorite bloggers to get the ball rolling with some fun ideas! (You can enter to win a gift card by playing along on facebook–but I also have a gift card for $100 to Expressions Vinyl at the bottom of this post! So double the chances of winning!!!  )

 

I have 18 fun stocking ideas that all have Heat transfer vinyl on them! But first…let me show you mine!

(I made a few! Ha!)

But this burlap one is my favorite at the moment! I’m loving flannel and seem to want to put it on everything!

I layered the burlap with backing…so two pieces of white…2 pieces of burlap and sew around (using an old stocking as a guide)

cut notches on all the edges to it lays smoother when you turn it ride side out!

then sewed the edge to help it lie more flat! 

I added the flannel to the top (with my hot glue gun!)

and then cut some heat transfer vinyl from Expressions Vinyl. For heat transfer you actually cut it on the backside (so you flip your image) and then peel away the part that isn’t your design.

This leaves a clear plastic sheet over your vinyl! Lay it down on your project and press it with an iron on that plastic sheet (about 15 seconds medium heat…and PRESS)

Then peel up that plastic sheet!

Burlap is porous…so vinyl adheres but it’s not super strong! So I would not recomend using it on something that will see a lot of wear and tear! Since this stocking is purely decorative it works fine!

oh…and The font is men in blue 

I also made  some stockings for my family….all the green is smooth heat transfer vinyl (except the pom poms and ric rac!)
