This fun circle project is trending fast-So I’m going to show you how to create a spiral vinyl cut file so you can create one too!
Thursday Night I was on facebook and saw someone post the coolest spiral project! Friday morning I woke up and made one! and I’m addicted! AND bonus points because while this spiral vinyl cut file looks difficult to make- it’s really one of the easiest things you will make!
Let me tell you- this is so easy even though it looks so difficult! It’s a program called SPIRAL BETTY! it takes a photo you upload and it turns it into a spiral vinyl cut file. It’s so unique because it literally weeds in one long piece. AND every picture you upload looks great. Photos with backgrounds. Close ups.
I even took a photo of one of my cut files! Still fun!
I would definitely cut this out with heat transfer vinyl. It has lots of little rough edges. I timed it- and it took 15 minutes (which isn’t too bad!) But it is intricate! So grab some Expressions vinyl easyweed and let’s make the coolest project!
Let’s get started!
Step 1. Upload Picture
You get an option to zoom in or move it to get the best placement.
Step 2. Adjust spirals
What is so cool about this is you can use the slider to adjust how many spirals. If you have it all the way to the right- they might be too small to cut out. I like about 75% to the right. You can also adjust lightness and contrast! It’s seriously so unique!
Step 3: features
At the bottom is allll the fun colors! If you want to print this out and frame it- you could pick a totally cool color combo. If you want to cut it our vinyl- stick with Black and white!
Once you have everything all set you click that arrow pointing down button to download- this will pop up! And I’m going to tell you right now- DONATE! This is such a cool feature and I would hate for her to feel like she needs to take it down or start adding a charge just to upload anything! Show some appreciate for this TOTALLY COOL SPRIRAL ART!
Once you get it downloaded- Time to add it to your silhouette or cameo to cut out!
Cutting the spiral cut file with silhouette
It downloads as a jpg- So I just uploaded it into my silhoeutte and traced it. It was a nice clean cut. The trace is the butterfly/toast button on the right hand side. Drag a box over and click trace.
When you pull it off- it’s read and just the outline so it’s hard to see—but It will cut fine!
Cutting the spiral cut file with cricut
For the cricut- Upload the image and click complex
On select and erase- click the background and save.
Upload it onto your mat and size it and cut!
Remember! If you are using HTV- You will want to flip the image!
Then weed. It’s literally the most satisfying thing! You will wan to tape down the corners if you want to watch it spiral as you weed.
Just start with the outside corner.
Then you just iron it on!
Now that I’ve done this once- I’m already planning 800 more! Prints would be so fun
Or layering it on top of some fun gradient background!
This shirt I made for my daughter is from a lany concert! Lany is her favorite band!
