We are now getting into the things that really blows all other cutters out of the water! seeeerriously.
the silhouette does amazing things! You can design something..make it all pretty..print it out on your printer…load it onto your mat and into your silhouette and it will cut around those designs for you!
see? amazing!!!!!
and i have used it soo many times…so once you learn it you will find multiple ways to use it!
( i made these book labels the same way)
i made this chore chart
and i didn’t not want to cut out all these circles by hand…(and if i did they would be more like ovals) so i whipped them out on my cameo!
to start you need to click on your show registration marks…(i did not and you will see later why you need to do this first)
these are the marks that will print out..and then when you put it in your silhouette it will be able to read them and know where to cut (like magic!)
then you start designing..i made a bunch of circles
you can click this button
and at the very bottom is fill page..and it will fill the area you are working with the same design…
make the lines super thick… or dashed or a sharp corner…
made them bold in black…made them all colorful…
but ended up with this cute polka dot pattern…
and here’s why i do these tutorials…so you can learn from my mistakes! after i got it all done..i THEN realized that i forgot to click show reg marks and had to move my circles all around (you can drag your mouse over each individual circle and right click to group together so you can move it all in one piece)
and make sure all the stuff you want to print on your printer is marked and click NO CUT..
it will highlight what will get cut so you can decide which one you need….
then when you send it to your silhouette you are going to click on detect registration marks…
then cut page as normal!!!
it’s awesome. it’s easy…and it looks so great!
now..once you figure this out..it opens up a whole new world. You could even design your own business cards and print them off and then cut them all out. You could design little gift tags or nametags..i mean the sky is the limit!!!
look how cute these magnets are from sew dang cute …
do you know how much time it would take to cut out each of these shapes?
next year (if i remember…i’m going to design my own christmas tags and use this feature to print and cut!)
answer: a lot! so go get on your silhouette and start making stuff!
tomorrow is all about your trace feature (i use this one the MOST!!!)

I sometimes have problems with the silhouette detecting the registration marks. I have the silhouette not the cameo. Any special tricks to getting it to always read those registration marks properly?

shansen 20—i've had no problems…i'm not sure if it's cause it's a cameo and they worked the kinks out or if's just your machine! i would contact silhouette and see what they suggest! good luck!

I just got a silhoutte. I am hoping that the "no cut" button is the answer. I tried to print on a smaller piece of paper and I finally got it to do the registration marks but it did not print out the design. I am wondering if it is b/c I didn't use the no cut and it probably wasn't highlighted.
Thanks for this series. The machine has a learning curve but I know it will be worth it in the end.

I'll have to get back to this post. It looks like great fun! I'm still on the basic post. It took me a day and a half to figure it out, but I think I'm getting the hang of my Cameo. Earlier today I was ready to give up because nothing was working the way I wanted it to. Those white rollers are hard to turn and my machine wasn't cutting until I moved the cutter to a 7 for cardstock. Yesterday it worked on the 3. I ended up cutting my mat because I forgot to push Enter to feed the mat into the machine before I cut. Grrrr. Yes, it's a learning curve, but with practice I'll get there. :)Thanks for helping me along.

I am wondering if I could go ahead and attach the paper with the labels on it, on a sheet of magnetic paper and THEN have the cameo cut it??? Is it possible to cut the magnetic sheets?
Kimbo says
They actually sell magnetic paper that goes through your silhouette! http://amzn.to/1F1mMZ8
