It’s not a pin cushion….it’s a pin book…but if I had said pin book would you have known what I was talking about? thought so…Anyways….that is what this post is about..pin books. felt pin books..(I have gone felt wild recently….)
I saw this great idea to store your fabric
I had Tupperwares full of fabric……so for mother’s day I requested a big shelf to put my plan in action.
Sometimes I just sit and smile at it. I love it so much. (she used foam boards—I used just cardboard.)
but I needed a pin cushion to leave on my shelf (my sewing box is upstairs) I was flirting with idea of a cute cupcake or some kind of dessert…but I had my felt out and a book is what came to pass.
I started with a rectangle (any size you want)
and some squares for the pages…(1/2 inch smaller than the rectangle folded in half).
Okay…bear with me…I made a couple…so the colors are going to jump around!!!
Decorated the front.
Took the pages…placed them in the middle. Pinned it and sewed up the side.
For the closure:
I took some elastic cording and sewed it to the center of the back using a piece of felt to cover the ends
and sewed on a button to the front
I also did one where I sewed the pages first before I sewed it to the cover.
Just made sure the pages stayed in place….
now, to be true to my name…..I had to do one with hot glue.
Same process just hot glue the pages in the rectangle
I trim the pages once the glue is cool
Hot glued on the elastic
and the button
to make the heart I just cut out a felt heart (out of white) and hot glued the strips across
and then just trimmed it up.
I think I am going to use this one as a mini sewing kit
I made a little felt pocket
and I used these little fiber cards to wrap some thread around to put in my pocket
perfect little sewing companion~! I think I’m going to leave mine in my glove box in the car.
sew cute. hot glue gun cute too~~~
Very cute! They actually made these way back in the day for storing needles; this well before felt though. LOL I love that you added in a page for safety pins, etc. This will make it even handier! Great job! Pam @ Sallygoodin

THAT IS A VERY CUTE IDEA!
I love the fabric storage idea! And I just got new shelves in the closet plus am getting a couple of floating shelves in our bedroom. Woo hoo! Functional artwork!!
I used to have some of the pin books when I was young that my grandmother made. We made ours out of old wool sweaters that had been shrunk or were just too holey! Thanks for the reminder… now I know what I am making up for Christmas presents.

I love the idea!!! So cute, TFS!!!!!!!
Cute idea! Thanks for linking @Creative Itch's "Sew Cute Tuesday"!
Very nifty idea. My favorite pin holder is a jar lid that I made into a pin cushion and screwed into the door of my sewing cabinet. Now I can't loose pins while sewing because the pins are up on the door, LOL! (not the clearest description)

These are really cute, I especially love the rainbow heart.. and have also just reminded me that I have a half-made needle book stashed away somewhere which I need to dig out and finish! Thank you for sharing and for the reminder 🙂

What a handy and convenient little pin organizer that doubles as a sewing kit. This would make a great gift and a perfect addition to the "emergency kit" for any bride- an essential!
