holes are in.
they are. you can spend a pretty penny on pants that look like you have already worn them 1000 times.
and my kids are totally in style….
these darn kids must walk on their knees at school.
holes…galore.
so i thought i would show how i fix holes…to make sure they don’t get any holier….
i buy these iron on patches from walmart or joanns…
they are less than two bones..and comes in all shades of levi.
for some reason it’s always better to round the edges…it doesn’t peel up as easily ….(cut it bigger than the hole)
i just follow instructions…warm up the fabric first with iron..then place the patch over the hole…and iron it on (nice and secure!)
after it cools you can turn it right side out and lay the levi “hairs” (all those strings) over the patch and iron them into place….
..
you can leave them like this…or you could run a few stitches back and forth (which is also very in style!)
(i have a separate needle that i colored with nail polish on the end that i use for patches or appliques. (it gets a little sticky when running through the patches–i clean it off with rubbing alcohol but i still like to keep it separate!)
after a few washings if the patch starts to peel up in the corners just iron them back down!
i always use them to reinforce my husbands shorts…
but i throw on a patch over each one….(sometimes i do it before a hole even starts…preemptive strike)

you can also turn them into these cute things…

You just gave me a neat idea for my oldest’s jeans that I swear must be BFF with Jesus, as holey as they are right now! Buy some funky fabric and attach it behind the ripped hole. Thanks!

My boys love camo, but the school district doesn’t allow it. I cut up a bunch of their old camo pants and used heat-n-bond to make a stash of patches for all of their jeans. I got a HUGE (like, 5 sq ft) pack of heat-n-bond at JoAnns for about 5 bucks, and I’ve barely made a dent in it, despite having patched 13 pair of pants and making a stash of many-sized patches (in camo, denim, corduroy, plaid, solid twill, etc.)
I do need to start reinforcing the corners though – maybe with an X stitch or something. I get sick of ironing the corners back down! LOL

I have also used old jeans and heat-and-bond (Super strong) to make my own patches.

Those iron on patches never work for me. They always fall off after a wash or 2. So i just save some money and make my own out of old jeans and sew them down by hand or machine.

How ironic! I thought my boys were out of the holey knee stage, but alas! NO! My teen son came home from school with a rip in his NEW jeans. He had decided to jump over a fence, a steel link fence (Ummm.anyone else see something wrong with this picture??) Did he make it over? Kinda….jeans caught onto a link, ripped his jeans , and deeply scratched his leg… I was more upset about the jeans…and he’s angry with ME because I wasn’t too concerned about his leg! He’s almost 15!!!! COME ON! lol oh, well. patching them today. lol

lol. sounds we need to wrap our boys in bubble wrap!

Good ideas. I didn’t think anyone wanted their holes covered up these days. LOL I am amazed at some of these people walking around with holes located in inappropriate spots. I guess I am just old fashioned.

Here is what I do with all the holes: I use Steam-A-Seam 2 to make my own patches to use on the inside or on the outside. In the colour i like. From the fabric I like (Jersey works really good!). And it will not peel off.
