Learn How to draw a Custom faceless Portrait using the procreate App. A super easy technique that I will walk you through on video!
Supplies to create the portrait:
- Procreate app: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id425073498
- Ipad Pencil
- Ipad
The Ipad needs to be compatible with the iPencil! There are two different versions of the pencil. And the older ones work with the iPad pro! Just double check before you are purchasing that the correct pencil works with correct iPad!
The procreate app is the real Allstar! I love this app. It is what I have use to make my cut files and to design my stickers! I do have a video that goes over the basics of the procreate app!
Since there is just so much on how to do it- I filmed it all on youtube! This video should help you figure out the basics!
How to draw a Custom faceless Portrait
A few things to note:
- Lots of different brushes to use. I use a monoline. But there are paint texture brushes that could give cool effects and make your portrait look watercolor! Play around with them!
- Pick a photo that has people standing- or upper body shots. Sitting or leaning always look a little awkward when drawing.
- I use the color tool to pick up colors so it matches the picture. BUT there are times that the colors just look off (skin is to orange- hair is pulling purple or gray) Use your creative license to tweak it to make it look good. In the video, my husband’s shirt looked super weird where my hair was- so I just drew my hair over it!
How to create the Background on the portrait
There are so many ways to do the background. I didn’t really discuss it on the video- but wanted to talk about it here!
You can Leave it white. Leave the original background (I think it looks so cool with the drawn picture on a real background).
Draw in your own fun unique background
You can also draw in the background as well Like me daughter did with this jeep!
Or add a some watercolor to background!
Here are some of the other fun designs that My daughter has drawn!
You can also take this basic technique and use them to draw anything: Dog portraits or even trace your childhood home and create a fun house picture!
There are seriously so many amazing things you can do with this basic how to!
My daughter has even drawn up pictures and turn them into stickers! It’s one of the coolest gift ideas for those hard to shop for people! (If you need help making stickers: HOW TO MAKE STICKERS!)
