one of my favorite posts…and most pinned is my fingerprint pendants (go HERE) They are so fun and easy and it’s a great gift for moms that doesn’t involve macaroni and glue….
they can be turned into charms..keychains..necklace and bracelets (mine are being used as ornaments on a christmas tree)
And then i saw these—and i thought…phew. that’s alot of money for something i can make from sculpey and spray paint..
1. roll it out (sculpey is the brand i used)
2. push your kids finger in it.
3. cut it out
4. poke holes (if you want a keychain just do one)
4 1/2 (not pictured) cause i don’t want you to see my dirty oven–bake according to package directions
5. spray paint..i wanted it to look like metal so i used a nickel colored spray paint from krylon
6. get jump rings
7. put on jump rings
8. add chain or bracelet…
enjoy! the inspiration picture: $75
mine: $2 ( i had literally had everything on hand…i didn’t buy anything!)
someone asked me how far a 2 oz sculpey block would go…
answer..pretty far! you could probably get 10 out of it!

Awesome! Do you think glazing would bring out the detail in the print more, or would the clay just soak it up and make it look muddy? I think this might be a good grandma gift for Mother’s day.
Kimbo says
try it! as long as you keep it a very thin coat i would imagine it would work awesome!

Julie, I got out child’s art set paints and used black on my brush to dab into ridges, then wiped off excess. Helped some, but stained my lovely metal colored clays (Sculpty). Would love to know if your glaze worked!

I LOVE this – I think a “charm” bracelet with all my babies teeny prints would be so lovely!!

oh! so cute!!!!! what a great idea!

Those charms cost over $100AUD! I used cold porcelain for mine and they were wonderful but sculpey would be heaps easier as you don’t have to wait for it to dry. Thanks so much.
Ps. Have you seen the heart you can make with two fingerprints. Totally cute!!!

Amazing, I actually was reading the book to see if I would know it. I do, that’s Little Women. I love that you used a classic book for the background, it’s a perfect backdrop.

Hi- Would like to do this with my Brownie Troop. Can you give a non-jewelry maker some tips on what size jump rings to buy? And if it’s smart to buy the colored sculptey (copper, gold, etc) for this project?
Kimbo says
i would go as big as you can find–to make it fit through the thickness of the sculpey. you can buy any color of sculpey you want–pink would be fun…as well as copper. whatever suits you guys the most! good luck!!!

Would salt dough work like the sculpty?
Kimbo says
i’m not sure…i haven’t worked with salt dough. if it dries hard than i wouldn’t imagine why it wouldn’t work! good luck!

I tried to make these earlier this year (with Sculpty), but you could not see the print. I emailed Sculpty and was told to spritz finger with water, but still couldn’t see it. Tried to rub black paint over and wipe off to help with definition and that helped a little, but my beautiful metal colored clays I had bought darkened. Still a work in progress I guess.
Would appreciate any hints anyone might have.
