First: We bought our Disneyland tickets through Get Away Today. WE bundled with Universal Studios and got them for a steal of a deal! Check them out if you are going soon (Disneyland and Disneyland!)
I know not everyone has an electronic cutter (although if you really want to know my honest opinion…..everyone SHOULD have an electronic cutter!! I love mine so much! (silhouette cameo 3!) But I wanted to show that you CAN create fun stuff even if you haven’t taken the cutter plunge yet! So grab some heat transfer vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and whip up some creativity! We made these two shirts for our DISNEYLAND trip! (we actually found the best ticket deals HERE!)Â
Look how cute we are! (okay…this was end of hte day…so we actually look a little haggard! But DOLE WHIP!)Â
- Here is what you need to create these Disney shirts:
- Scissors (I love this one because it comes with a small one and a big one)
- Printable heat transfer vinyl from Silhouette
- Heat transfer vinyl from Expressions VinylÂ
- Paper cutter
- Iron
- printer/paper (optional)
First shirt. My daughter. She’s 14. Heaven help us all. She is very opinionated and didn’t want a regular Disney shirt. She is obsessed with retro (thanks to Stranger things) So I came up with this retro looking version with a subtle Disneyland castle!Â
Expressions Vinyl has SO MANY amazing colors–I recommend grabbing a sample kit so you can play around with color schemes! I laid them all out and played around until I find a color combination I loved. I literally could have made about 15 stripes because of all the colors Expressions has! (Shirt is actually from WALMART!)
I used smooth heat transfer–but glitter would be awesome too! Â
Stripes are just so darn easy with heat transfer vinyl! I wanted them exact and used my new fiskars paper cutter Â
You can totally use a ruler and scissors..but this made quick work! Just 3/4 inch of each color! (but think of how cool this would look with just black stripes!Â
Laid them all out. We hemmed and hawed about whether we wanted the little white space between or not…white space one…cut it looked good both ways!Â
Iron it on! Since it’s not cut on a cutter and weeded out….there is no extra carrier sheet to keep it stuck in place! Make sure not to let it slip around! ( I do about 15 seconds each section PRESSING with my iron a little below the hottest setting!)
Castle! If you are an amazing artist….you can draw your design. OR you can save yourself some time and print out the design on paper.
I cut it down to size and grab your vinyl and trim it to the same size. I paper clip or tape them together and start snipping. Nice and slow and make sure they don’t shift! Â
Once it’s all cut out, you can iron it onto your shirt (or bag!) Pretty easy! (I mean…time consuming if you pick an intricate design…but not a complicated method!)
If it’s adhesive vinyl, you could actually print out the design on the back (You would need to flip it mirror image first) and cut out with an exacto knife!
This one is probably my FAVORITE shirt of the bunch that I made!
Okay! Let’s talk about my shirt! Mickey Mouse. Luckily…this is the simplest image! So easy to free hand! Grab a bowl and two cups and trace it out!
I (of course) wanted something a little funky too (maybe that’s where my daughter gets it from) So I found this in my stash: Printable heat transfer vinyl from Silhouette!
You can pick whatever pattern (I originally was going to go floral..but found this fun pattern instead!) and print it out on the paper! and cut off any of the pattern that you don’t need. You flip it onto the shirt (the grid is the back) and iron it on. I was so nervous that this wasn’t going to work….but holy cow! It turned out so cool! (and this was only 1 sheet! That pack comes with 5 sheets!)Â
Peel off the gridded back piece and reveal your awesome new shirt! (you could even do a Mickey Mouse print or print out any fun Disney character and just cut around them!
So there you go…two adorable shirts that you can create without an electronic cutter!
