I’m all about the easy costumes. (apparently since my last week here on the blog has been filled with them!) but I have one more up my sleeve! A butterfly costume. and the best part-It cost me about $2 worth of supplies to pull it together!
What you need to make butterfly wings
- amazon box
- paint
- black pipe cleaners
- headband
- ribbon
- hot glue
I used the biggest box I had-because the wings are for me. But if you are making them for a child, you can probably make them smaller. Since a butterfly is symmetrical. I cut one side and then traced it for the other wing so they would match.
I used the flaps of the box to join them together with lots of hot glue!
Then using my favorite spray paint (colorshot) I added some color to that box! You could make these any fun colors-even rainbow! Be creative!
Taking black paint, I added some details. I just found a picture of a butterfly and copied. There are so many fun patterns of butterfly wings that you can make these really detailed and amazing. I did both sides, front and back since you can see them both.
I took a sharp knife and cut some slits and fed the ribbon through and hot glued into place. So basically these wings are like a back pack when putting on!
Do you see the little black marks on the back? that is the ribbon folded over and hot glued for the straps!
HOW TO MAKE A BUTTERFLY ANTENNA
This was pretty darn easy. Headband and you wrap some pipe cleaners (or fuzzy sticks as they are apparently called here!) to make the shape! Done and Done!
The whole outfit together!
Anti-social butterfly is a cut file that you can get when you purchase this fun bundle! and just added to a black shirt and jeans.
It’s pretty wide, so you have to turn to go through doorways. but the butterfly wings are very lightweight!
You don’t have to be an anti-social butterfly–a regular butterfly will be just as cute! This just fit my personality a bit more!
