The fun part about this kid’s craft is watching the tissue paper BLEED! Once wet, the colors will all start spreading over your picture and when it’s all dry, will look like a cool watercolor design!
Supplies to make popsicle Garland

- Cardstock
- bleeding tissue paper
- scissors
- Printable (Down below)
- Spray bottle
- tape or hot glue gunÂ
- Bakers Twine
If you don’t want to purchase the bleeding tissue paper, you can use watercolors (or try this knockoff watercolor hack).
You can also use regular tissue paper and instead of having it bleed, you use elmers glue and glue it right on to make a colorful popsicle!
How to create Popsicle Garland- Kids Craft
These popsicles are so cute when they are done! And kids will love watching the colors bleed into each other! Peeling off the tissue paper for the reveal is the best part!
You can use these bleeding tissue papers to create lots of great pictures. Pair them with these butterfly printables!
Cutting out the printables:
I purposely created the popsicles to have extra room around the edges. I just cut them out in 3 big pieces so when the tissue paper bleeds- it bleeds on the paper and not on the table.
Adding the bleeding tissue paper
Depending on the age of your kids- you can give them the scissors and have them cut out shapes in the tissue paper or you can precut the tissue paper yourself. Stripes, circles, triangles, or just confetti! It will all result in different looks!

There are two different ways to lay out the tissue paper. The first way is to lay it out on the printable and then add water.

The second way is misting the paper beforehand and them laying the pieces on top. There are pros and cons of both ways. If you lay the tissue paper down first, it can shift or blow off when you mist it with water. But if you mist it first, then try adding the tissue paper, as soon as it touches you can not move it. So you just kind of have to drop it on top! Try both ways and tell me what you prefer!

You don’t need too much water, just a light mist. You can press any pieces that don’t lay flat down with a toothpick or a cotton swab.

EXPERIMENT: Use the bleeding tissue paper to learn about the color wheel. Watch as the colors bleed into each other to create new colors!
Finishing the popsicle
If you try to move the tissue paper while it’s still wet it will result in colorful fingers and a mess! Let your project dry and the tissue paper comes off easily.

Then I trim around the edges when it dries! I purposely cut the black lines off but kid can cut them however they want!

I think they look cute with a real popsicle stick taped to the back. But I did add the stick onto the printable so you can just color it in or add brown bleeding tissue paper on that part!

These are so cute just by themselves! Use them to decorate a popsicle stand or any pool party, write an invitation on the back for a summer soiree, or just them to hang up on your wall!

Attaching the popsicles to the garland:
There are lots of cool ways to make a garland. I went the easiest route- just laid out a string the size of my mantel and taped the back of the popsicles to it.

But another fun way is to cut up a piece of a drinking straw and tape them to the back of the popsicles and then run the bakers twine or string through them. That makes it so you can move and slide them on the garland.

Fourth of July Garland
Since it’s still June- we decided to create all red white and blue popsicles for a fun 4th of July garland! It turned out so cute!
