What you need to make a rainbow mobile
- Cardboard
- paint
- bubble warp (optional)
- scissors
- glue
- beads
- paint brush
- magazines/buttons/colorful object from around the house!
How to make a rainbow mobile
Took a cardboard box and sketched out a rainbow shape and cut out. (cardboard is recommended to make it spin!)
Paint the rainbow! (since the rainbow spins, you will want to paint both sides! )
This next step is optional but the bubble wrap just adds a cool looking texture to the rainbow!
Go over the bubble wrap with paint (not gobs of paint- you just want it lightly covered)
Press onto the rainbow. Refresh with paint every two stamps.
We had lots of fun with the bubble wrap–I’ll go into more detail down below.
Once the paint is dry- (or WHILE paint is drying.) have kiddos gather up things that they can glue onto the rainbow. Magazines are a great source- scrapbook paper, washi tape, buttons, glitter etc! They glue them on and color coordinate the rainbow layers!
To make the mobile spin-
you need to run some string and beads through it. That is why you need the cardboard- you can fit a needle in between the cardboard layers. Just poke the needle up through, string a could beads, string a needle through the next layer, add some beads.
When it’s all done…you can hang it up and when the wind hits it, it spins!
The rainbow looks super cool with just the bubble print on top of it. So if you want to cut out the embellishments you totally can! We used the bubble wrap to make some fun insects and to make a few fun prints on paper to doodle on top of!
I even saved the painted bubble wrap because I think I can turn it into a cool flower! The dragonfly is my favorite! He is just cardboard with paint and sharpie over top!
Here is a ladybug I made using larger bubble wrap. the wings open and close using the brad and they are made out of bubble wrap too!
So much fun! What is better than a colorful paint project?
If you like this project- you will love my yarn rainbows! They are so freaking cool!
