giant chalkboard for $10!

You can go here to hear all my musings about what I wanted to do in my kitchen….

here is my embarrassing before….were I basically was slapping things on the wall so it wouldn’t echo.. IMG_8532-682x1024

and here was my 4 options that I was thinking of doing….

wall options are you ready for  the big reveal???? (going to pretend that it’s not in the title!)

I PICKED GIANT CHALKBOARD. giant chalkboard wall for cheap!

(I did pull in the photo ledges HERE)

Chalkboard is a trend that I hope never leaves (even though it was nowhere to be seen around CHA) I love the look of it.

And I made this baby all by myself…(cause whenever I try to tell husband about my hair brained schemes he totally tries to talk me out of it….) my house dining room wall decoration ideas

I started by painting directly on the wall (my wall isn’t super textured…and I really wasn’t going to have my kids color on it too much) You might want to buy a plywood sheet and hang that instead!

I used THIS CHALKBOARD PAINT (and there was a TON left over!) So I’m going to say I only used about $5 of  it. Just marked it with some painter’s tape and went to town. unnamed (10)a a

I grabbed some wood and stained them wood-stain-minwax-espresso

Then cut each one to fit (the corner are 45 degree angles) I didn’t use any fancy cutter. just my handheld scroll saw.

and nailed them to the wall. It wasn’t an exact science..and I don’t fancy myself an experienced word worker–but you just make a giant frame!

After it was up I found these fun corner braces:

corner braces I spray painted them with brown and used sand paper to scuff them up to give them a nice used industrial look- corner brackets

and added some cheap dollar letters from Michaels and some vinyl (you can go HERE to read about how to cut vinyl for long projects!)
