Today’s fun project is 10 ways to create a party backdrop with paper! Grab a pack of paper and make some amazing projects!
The last time I was wandering the Paper Crafts at Hobby Lobby, I was in awe of the cardstock packs! The color schemes of each and everyone were just so pretty!
I picked up one because it was the exact color scheme of a party I was planning. I was trying to figure out how to incorporate the pack into the party decorations and I came up with so many cute party backdrops that I decided to create them ALL and show you how you can take one pack of paper and create a whole wall that will be perfect for any party! Just grab the pack in the correct color scheme and make cheap and gorgeous decor!
Think outside the box! These ideas can be used for more than just parties! You can use them to decorate their bulletin boards in the classroom or your office. You could also use these to create fun decorations in a college dorm or rental since it’s just tape and paper!
Supplies to make paper Backdrops
- Paper Studio Cardstock Packs from Hobby Lobby
- Scissors
- Tape
That’s it! Party decorations have never been easier!
How to hang party backdrops
Since the supplies you are using are PAPER- most of these backdrops can be attached directly to the wall with regular scotch tape. I did you some heavier packing tape for the more significant, heavier items like Paper fans and the tassels. You can also use command strips if you want it up long-term!
10 ways to create a party backdrop with paper
1. Stripes backdrop
This one is the absolute easiest. No cutting. I just taped the paper into straight lines to create stripes. You can cut the paper in half longwise and create smaller stripes for a different look!
2. Paper flower Decoration
Dahlia Cardstock Pack
This one is pretty popular! Probably because they are so pretty!
I moved these into my daughter’s room afterward because they are so cute! I already have a whole post about how to make paper flowers you can check out! But to pull off a good floral backdrop, you want a few different sizes in a few different colors! Cut out the petals and assemble.
The middle of flowers is just strips of paper cut into fringe and rolled up tight. Fan out and add to your flower!
Make sure to use those scraps to create matching cake toppers!
3. Paper Chain
I have been making chains since grade school! But these are so much prettier than the ones I use to make!
Cut each paper into strips. You can do these any size.
Loop them together. I stapled them but you can tape them!
Once you have a chain long enough, it’s time to hang! Two different ways to hang these on the wall.
Horizontal:
and Vertical
I liked the look of the vertical.
4. Scalloped backdrop
Another super easy party decoration! Take a bowl or lid and trace a circle onto the paper.
Then cut each circle in half!
Tape up by color. I added them onto the wall in the same order as the Paper pack because it was so pretty on the packaging!
5. Paper Tassels
Once again, you can make these in any size- but I just made these specific tassels from full sheets of cardstock.
Snip up each piece into the fringe. Don’t cut all the way through.
Roll each color into a circle. I took my finger and pulled out the pieces to make it spread out so it wasn’t just straight down! You could make a lot of these and hang a few strands of them!
I did add these onto a string to hang up on the wall behind the cake!
6. Fan Garland
This is my favorite color scheme I think. It’s just so bright and happy!
With this cardstock pack, we are making paper fans!
Alternating sides, fold back and forth back and forth.
I taped them together to create one long colorful paper fan.
You can hang these straight up on the wall. It creates such a cool texture!
OR
You can tape the bottoms to make the basic fan shape and then alternate top to bottom. It creates a wavy garland!
7. Checkered
This one isn’t a colored pack- but I wanted to include it because it’s an easy DIY that makes a big statement!
Take your black cardstock and trim it to make each one into a square! Just tape each corner onto the wall. If your wall isn’t white, you can use white cardstock to fill in the negative space.
You can also use this same idea to create a fun plaid wall!
8. Fringe backdrop
Head back up to number 5- This fringe backdrop starts the same way as those tassels! Just snip up the fringe on each paper. Then tape up on the wall. I overlapped them a little bit to make it look full!
9. Paper Fans Party Decor
These paper fans are made the same way as number 6! To create the paper round, you need 4 paper fans put together. Overlap some colors together to create some two-tone looks!
(Doesn’t this look like a butterfly? You could turn these into a whole butterfly wall!)
10. Sprinkles Party Backdrop
I had so many fun scraps leftover from my other backdrops, so I decided to make a sprinkle photo backdrop!
Just cut out some sprinkle shapes in all the colors!
Tape them up randomly on the wall! Now that looks like a party!
There you go- 10 ways to create a party backdrop with paper! Such an easy way to put up some party decorations that look amazing!
Now that you have all the ideas, grab some paper from Hobby Lobby and mix and match these ideas together to create a unique look!
