Come check out this tutorial on how to make a giant ring pop gift. This makes a perfect Valentine’s present or bridal shower decoration!
I don’t know what it is about making things giant-size, but I always think they are so cute! And this giant ring pop made from dollar tree supplies is just that! CUTE! I made one for each daughter to give for Valentine’s Day!
Supplies to make giant ring pop
All the main supplies can be found at the dollar store. The E6000 is a great crafting glue because it has an amazing hold! I buy it from amazon or Walmart!
- 2 bowls (dollar store) I found pink, purple, blue, and clear.
- pool noodle or foam wreath
- plastic plates
- e-6000
- goodies for inside
- wire (optional)
- Paint (optional)
- hot glue
- sharp knife or scissors
How to make a giant ring pop gift
This is such an easy DIY! The glue does have to cure for about 24 hours so keep that in mind when planning this out!
How to create the bottom of the ring:
I cut the pool noodle about 24 inches. I taped the pool noodle into a circle shape.
After 24 hours, I took the duct tape off and it held its shape. It started to loosen up after a while, so I recommend putting wire through the pool noodle. You can also buy one of those foam wreath forms and cut out the bottom section. The foam wreath at our store only came in green, so I didn’t want to paint it!
I also cut off a little of the very top of the pool noodle so the plate would sit flat on the ring.
How to make the top of the ring.
Start by placing whatever you want inside the bottom bowl. You can use these giant ring props for an engagement party; in that case, you can leave it empty or fill it with a metallic fringe filler. You also could get remote activity fairy lights and put them inside!
Since this was a Valentine’s Day gift, I filled it with goodies. Bath bombs, stuffed animals, chapstick, and lots of candy!
After you have it filled, you will add a little E6000 around the edge. You will place glue dots about every 4-5 inches if you want to be able to open them.
Let the glue dry for about 24 hours. If you are in a hurry, you can add some dots of hot glue to hold it in place while the glue cures. It will be easy to take off the top bowl with just the hot glue though!
Assemble the ring pop
After the ring part has cured, It’s time to assemble the ring pop. I hot glued the pool noodle to the bottom of the plate, and then hot glued AND e6000 the bowl to the top of the plate! The plastic plates I got for the purple ring pop were pretty thin so I did glue 3 plates together to make it a little more sturdy.
How to open the Ring pop
Since you only glue around the bowls in a few spots, you can just wedge a butter knife in between the bowls and get it to pop open!
These turned out so cute and I just love the oversized-ness! If you are putting together a bridal shower or bachelor party you could keep the ring part round and spray paint it all silver or gold for a totally adorable party prop!
I also thought these would be super cute as a giant sucker. So instead of adding the ring part, I hot glued a wood dowl to the bottom of the bowl and wrapped clear cellophane around it!
I got a few comments on INSTAGRAM about how this is wasteful and not environmentally friendly. But after we opened the ring pops we closed the bowls back up and wrapped them in cellophane to make them look like giant candies. I have a candy/gingerbread-themed Christmas Tree so I think they will be perfect for it!
