Today we are taking a very unorganized shelf and turning it into a useful functional space. Learn how to DIY a gift-wrapping station in a closet!
It was my dream to have an organized home decor closet that includes my very own gift-wrapping station! But I’m going to show you what my closet has looked like for 4 years! (No judging!)
What a mess! The wrapping paper would just fall anytime anyone used it and everything else was spread out in different places around the house, so every time I needed to wrap a present, I had to go grab all the supplies!
I wanted to create one dedicated space with everything I need! I headed to Hobby Lobby to grab all the tools to make this a functional, organized, gift wrap station!
Supplies to make a gift-wrapping station
There are so many cool things in the Home Decor section at Hobby Lobby that would work in the space! But here is what I bought!
- Pegboard
- Dowels
- Metal Hooks
- Chalkboard sign
- Command Hooks
- Set of baskets
On top of buying the necessities-I did grab some new gift bags, ribbon, gift tags, and washi tape dispensers because I just couldn’t pass it up!
How to DIY a gift-wrapping station in a closet
The biggest obstacle is the gift wrap. I say biggest because it’s such an odd shape. I thought the best solution was to hang it on the wall!
How to hang gift-wrapping paper
I spaced each hook out to make sure there was room for the dowel and the rolls of wrapping paper on each section. I just screwed these directly into the wall. If you don’t want to add any holes, Hobby Lobby has command hooks that would work the exact same!
I need to go back and get another set of hooks so I can fit one more wrapping paper tube on the bottom! But I love that it looks so good while being functional! And it’s easy to swap out paper as needed! I might change out all these to Christmas-themed wrapping paper rolls in December so I can easily wrap presents all month long!
Pegboard organizer
I snagged this wood pegboard. I have the black version in my hallway and I just love it!
The pegboard was the exact perfect fit for the side of my closet! Like it was made for it!
This board is such a great use of space that normally didn’t get any use! I can store my spools of ribbon, pair of scissors, tags, and tape with ease. Just grab and go!
Gift Bag Storage
There are a few different gift bag storage sections. The opposite side of the pegboard got two large hooks screwed into it. There are so many different hooks at Hobby Lobby! I just picked the one I like best!
I had to place them up at the top so the bags would fit
I also found this cool gold file organizer that was perfect for fitting in boxes or larger gift bags!
I also placed some command hooks on the door for some extra large gift bags! I wanted to utilize every space!
Tissue paper and bow storage
The last thing I had to organize was all the tissue paper, ribbons, and bows! I found these cool storage bins in The Spring Shop section- but Hobby Lobby always has excellent storage options! I added some vinyl because I like to label EVERYTHING!
I loved these bins! I might go back and stock up on a few more so I can organize a few other places!
Birthday Calendar
The last thing in my closet is the Birthday Calendar on the door!
It’s a chalkboard sign that I added some vinyl months to. I love having them all listed so I can just glance at them!
The Gift wrapping closet
Here it is all finished! The striped bins are old, but they hold gifts. I always pick up things on sale or if I see something cool for last-minute gifts. It’s nice to have a stockpile because even though there is a calendar, some birthdays do sneak up on us!
Every time I open it, I get a huge smile on my face! It just makes me so happy!
And there is still room on the shelf if I end up accumulating even more accessories! If you need more storage- you could sew this craft organizer and hang it on the door!
You can adapt this and make it for packaging supplies if you have a small business in your home!
I hope something you have seen in this post has inspired your creativity and you are motivated to organize your space!
