What’s better than a Paint by number? A GIANT paint by number! And I’m going to show you how to make your own!
I originally had these as a fun activity Camping. But these are so great for any group activity! Just lay it out on the table and let people fill it out! I actually just saw a tik tok where someone had a paint by number printed out and peeople colored it as a wedding guest book! So when it was finished, they could hang it on the wall and now their loved ones helped paint it in!
But, I personally have bad eyes. So blowing up the paint by number big is so much easier on the eyes than trying to color in those tiny pieces on regular paper!
Supplies you need to do a giant paint by number
- Free printables (I have some linked down below)
- The guide/color sheet printed out. (you Might not want to include the picture so the reveal is extra fun
- Empty storage containers (found this pack of 8 at the dollar tree)
- Pack of paint brushes (also found at the dollar tree!)
- acrylic paint
You want thicker paint so it covers up the number! I really love DecoArt because it’s nice and thick!

How to print the paint by numbers giant:
These are just like my giant coloring pages.
You need to upload them either on office max or staples as an engineering print. They can only be black and white and they have quite a few different size options!
Fill Paint
Make sure you print out the color guide. You are going to fill up the storage containers and try to color match the best you can! I’ve noticed that as long as you have it close- you will be fine! Paint by numbers are abstract and it just needs to have a different colors to pull it all together.
I added stickers to the top to keep them numbered. If it’s really big, or lots of people are helping, you could do two paint containers per number.
For littler hands, you can totally just use markers or crayons!
Paint your paint by number
Then just start! Pick a number and just start! It looks worse before it looks good!
It’s so much fun to see it come together!
I also love that you don’t have to be crazy careful because it looks so good as a whole and you don’t notice the little mistakes you might have made!
Create Your own paint by numbers
I found this amazing website: pbnify. It can take any image you have and turn it into a paint by number! I’ve been playing around with quite a bit (it’s addicting! You have been warned!
Upload your image (please remember that images you find “on google” belong to someone and most are copyrighted! I tried to only use pictures I have personally taken)
Click the screen to add in a color. Each click will add a color to your color palette. You want to make sure you have a good amount of colors, but not two colors that are too close to being the same shade. I just click click click then scroll to the top and delete any that look duplicated. Click the PBNify button to see your finished product (it can a take a few seconds)
If it looks too blurry or too busy, you can recolor it. If you like it, save it. You need to save the outline, the filled picture (for reference) and the color palette. I went into a seperate app to add the color with the reference picture.
I made four if you want to use any of the ones I created:
