you forget when they stop.

today we are showing our spring break fun:
something super easy..and looks pretty dang cool when its’ all said and done!
first..i googled the kids favorite animals and found silhouettes and cut them out with my cameo….
i peeled and stuck them onto white cardstock (you could use canvases if you want)
here’s a few tips for painting with your kids.
don’t.
okay.okay. it’s not that bad. just semi bad. but here’s some tricks to make it easy.
i buy plastic tablecloths and use them underneath. you need something big. newspaper is just too small.
also..let them only pick up to three colors. (especially when they are little) if you put all 10 colors on the coolwhip lid (another tip use butter/coolwhip/sourcream lids!) your 4 year old will start out painting nice and then soon they all get mixed in and you have a poo brown picture.
here’s another awesome little product: floating medium. my kids think watercolors are a cop out. they want to use mom’s real paint. so i pour the paint and squirt some floating medium onto each blog. it makes the paint not as thick and it goes a lot further. i use it a TON even when i’m painting. if i’m not going for heavy coverage i love it. it just glides on so much smoother (floating medium is actually already in your paint. you know when your paint has been sitting for awhile and you don’t shake it and when you squirt it out and you get a clear gel before the paint comes out? THAT is floating medium!)
then you have your kids paint right over….
then you{ oh so carefully} peel off the vinyl. in some spots it started peeling up the paper..just go slow and work with it.
this shark was mine….
then i grabbed some dollar store frames…
and framed the images
and hung them up
(in a dark hallway)
they are pretty proud….
we had a bunch of paint leftover…so i sipped around the silhouettes and we did round two so everyone could try a different animal…
and look how fun these silhouettes would be..

I’ve been considering doing something similar, but my two youngest are almost 2….so I’m going to wait until it’s warm enough so that we can do the project outside…and then hose them off outside. 🙂

Cool idea, the cheap frames look much better sprayed white. I know what you mean about the poo coloured paint!

What sticker-paper did you use for the silhouettes? I don’t have a cameo cutter. I am planning to cut out things myself, but I don’t understand what adhesive paper to use that will not rip the paper when you remove it. I would greatly appreciate an advice!
Thanks!

It’s removable (indoor) vinyl http://www.expressionsvinyl.com/indoor-adhesive-vinyl.html But I’m sure walmart has something that would work down the paper aisle…sticker paper or label stuff!
