etching

I’m going to quote from one of my favoritest movies:

It’s not an etch-a-sketch. This is one doodle you can’t undid.

And this has really nothing to do with nothing except I am using etching stuff today. And once you etch…it can’t be undid.

Oh yes, we are going to etch our little names into pyrex cooking pans! And I have been wanting to do this FOREVER! I’m super anal about my stuff. When I take it somewhere I am nervous someone is going to walk off with my pan. Well, FEAR NO MORE!  (and I know this is not a new concept..I’ve seen it around. But I’m still doing it. call me a rebel.)

11 bones at Walmart…love the lids.
I  bought this:
transfer tape…It’s normally 10 at Joanns…used a 50% off coupon…(that’s $5.) and it has 4 sheets that are each 12×24….after you see ALL that I made–and I only used ONE sheet of it!

used this:  CRICUT!
now, the hardest part is figuring out the lettering..I wanted it on the underside to the pan…so the words would have to be backwards…if you are putting it on the underside and using this transfer tape…the red lined side is up.

Then I just peel off the red lined top leaving me with sticky side that I just pressed onto the bottom of this pan

bought this…and it’s a pretty little bottle but it went rEALLLY far. It says to coat liberally  (DO IT! don’t be stingy) and leave on for 5 minutes…I left mine on for 30….)

then you just wash off….and the transfer tape just washed off!

then I got super carried away and did every glass pan I own…and since i’m not normal…I thought my pans had better be a little un normal too!

MY MESS! I cleaned while I was waiting for my etching stuff to activate!

a mason jar

and if you think I polished and got all the smudges off of my pans before I took pictures…
then you don’t know me AT ALL.
They are all clean…but once that sunshine hits them it’s like BAM….spots and fingerprints!

NOW–if you don’t have a cricut…don’t fear….You can still do this!!!!
Just lay out some vinyl on the glass..sketch out your design (or trace) and use an exacto knife to cut it out.
(the transfer tape wasn’t the greatest with the exacto knife..so I would recommend vinyl. It works great except if won’t wash off..you have to peel it!)

the exacto knife works great! it’s super easy to cut through and peel up!

then just add your etching and wait!

And if you happen to have your etching stuff out…and a fish… (okay, just love this project…)

and I also thought it would be so cute to etch a stache into a cup..
kinda like these from tatortots and jello

and then I had to etch a few more glasses….
and a special one for me…

i’m like sooo mature.
come back tomorrow for one more etching process! (only one…cause i literally used ALL of my etching stuff!)
I might just start a support group for etching…!
