I showed you guys my whole craft room HERE….
I didn’t want to wait any longer to show you even though I still had a bazillion and one things to do it (like make the closet more functional
and clean out alllll that fabric.) But one of the main things I needed to tackle was above my desk. I love the idea of having an inspirational mood board…pictures and quotes and patterns and that kind of stuff.
But let’s get real….I need EVERY LAST INCH of space in my room. Everything in there has to serve a function…and this wall was taken up by giant (cute) bulletin boards.
So down they went…and up went my new pegboard system. I LOVE IT. LURVE IT! SO MUCH.
seriously. SERIOUSLY. true love.
alright–let’s get down to the peg board
I bought the white finished pegboard at home depot. They are 2 feet by 4 feet. They actually have big sheets of brown pegboard that are 4 feet by 8 feet and cheaper…But I since it’s still cold here and spray paint is hard to do in the cold…I opted for the finished ones!
Step 1 is to find the studs. Since you are hanging heavy boards you want to make sure that it’s not going to fall off the wall! I took a piece of wood from my scrap pile and cut it 4 feet across and screwed it into the studs where I wanted the top of my pegboard to be. (and make sure it was level!) Then measure where the bottom was…and screw another board into the studs. I added one in the middle (but just a small scrap piece) Then screwed the peg boards onto the wood. (If the pegboard was flush against the wall…You wouldn’t be able to add any hooks or hang stuff!)
It’s just slightly floating off the wall. You can actually add a fun frame molding around the edge…but I like the look of it just like this!
We used to have a pegboard in our garage…so we had some hooks leftover –but I would buy THESE! great set of all different sizes! I spray painted mine all gold!
But I did go to Home depot and snagged some baskets
and while I was there I found these amazing magnets that you can screw right into the pegboard! Think on how fun to have a whole bunch and you can just pop your scissors and pliers right up on the wall!
And then I hit up hobby lobby. I actually felt like I worked backwards on this project. I walked around the whole store and found anything that would work on my wall and threw it in my cart. I wanted to play around with placement and items and I couldn’t do that if I didn’t have all the stuff at my fingertips! I later returned anything that I didn’t use!
Then I went around my craft room and gathered up anything that needed a better place and I could put up on wall! First up was washi tape. I had it all in a cookie jar. and while I loved it…I use it way to often and had way to many to find what I wanted without dumping out the whole jar (I have two full jars of washi tape!)
I took the simple pegs and some craft dowels left over from this project . (I love when I have stuff on hand) So I just color coordinated and filled them up. I ended up using 7 dowels. I placed the one on the bottom first and worked my way up. (I knew I wanted these close to the bottom for easy access! )
The other thing I KNEW I wanted easy access is my scissors! I love these fun patterned ones from FISKARS! One is for fabric, one is for vinyl, and one is for paper! None are for my children! Lol! I’m also a sucker for fun colors! So I love them for that reason too!
After that I just kind of started throwing stuff up. Luckily it’s easier to rearrange and move things around. Just a little trial and error to get exactly how I wanted it!
I ended up finding this gold basket–perfect to hold my planners and sketchbooks!
Added rulers and watercolor palettes in a basket.
Even had some room for a frame and picture of some of my favorite people…and a little note from my grandma.
She’s big crafter and is always giving me lace and trims and magnetic bowls for pins.
Remember those magnetic pegboard accessories? Well I actually found these magnetic air planters at home depot..I thought it was so fun to add a little greenery!
I totally want to get some for my fridge now too!
At the top is a little harder to reach for stuff…so I have my badges from all my blog conferences, embroidery hoops–along with the cute office sign I got from Tuesday Morning.
I use my instax camera’s occasionally….I actually love having them out in view…I remember that I have the and will hopefully use them more! ( I need to add THIS color to my collection!)
And my letterfolk board! It’s funny cause it’s true. If you could see the CONSTANT State of my craft room you will know that although I actually do hate messes….it’s the one place that is ALWAYS a mess. (scroll up and see the before picture of my desk again if you don’t believe me!)
This basket doesn’t really have a purpose yet…which I love. I’m only half way done cleaning my craft room so I love that when I found something that will fit perfect I have a spot for it. Right now it’s holding some ribbon and a diy pineapple!
I hung up a light fixture I got at hobby lobby…because I always need good light—I took it down to get better pictures. Can’t decide if I want to leave it black or paint it some funky color!?
I didn’t want the pegboard to go all the way down to my desk…I have too much crap that need storage!
It stores brush pens, sharpies, colored pencils, crayons, watercoloring supplies, glue, etc!
(these little containers are from hobby lobby! They weren’t exactly what I was looking for…but the price was right!) They were 9.99 a piece…but all 40% off.
I am part of a really fun group that are all showing their creative spaces (I totally love sneaking peaks at people’s craft rooms!)

Kimbo! This is beyond DREAMY. I adore pegboards. That “things I hate” sign kills me and that light is so cool. Love everything about it! Do you girls always want to be in there? Mine ask if they can have all my craft stuff when I die, ha!
Kimbo says
ah! Thanks girl! My daughters both say they want to be “crafters” when they grow up! I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing!
