So…before Halloween I was thinking about putting a scarecrow on my front porch. I headed to the thrift store and ended up buying 4 flannel shirts. (less than $4 each!) The scarecrow never happened…but instead I turned those flannel shirts into a bunch of fun diy projects! Old flannel shirts are cheap and I the variety of patterns beat our local craft store..but these projects can totally be recreated with fabric…or even if could score an fabric plaid tablecloth!
Then it’s just slice and dice.
first up…wreath decorations:
I just used a dollar store hanger and hot glued a piece of flannel on it.Laid a two inch strip of hot glue and then laid the fabric down and scrunched up for a gathered look!
Then hang on a door! I even added a flannel bow!
I also grabbed just a strip and used it on this wreath.**napkin holders–This is a toilet paper roll, cut up into pieces and scrap flannel wrapped around and hot glued!
cheap and easy way to jazz up your Christmas table!
***pillow–
I made an envelope back so I could swap out for the seasons! and to save on the flannel shirt, I added a solid color for the back.My cute cousin just shared her pillows she whipped up! (the red plaid was an ugly dress!) for the deer head: “I printed out the deer head and traced it to heat and bond and bonded it to my fabric and then cut it out and bonded it to the pillow, which is leftover drop cloth canvas”
***Use the scraps to wrap up your presents! Make them look pretty!Â
***Add a decal onto a fun sign (for the wood frame how to go HERE)Â
I cut around a template and mod podged it onto the wood frame then added vinyl
or add some flannel around foam letters for another cute sign
***Another great scrap buster–use like ribbon on top of tags!
***How about a hair bow? This is a great way to add some holiday cheer in family pictures…without having to buy full on Christmasy outfits!Â
You could also hot glue a bow tie version
***shirt–I just cut out a heart and sewed it onto a t-shirt. I actually was making this for my daughter and loved it so much I kept it!
***Use some to add some “flair” to your stockings
or use some flannel to make a cute scarf
Make sure to check out THIS POST...I have a HUGE plaid roundup! so many fun craft ideas it will make you buy all the flannel!

I LOVE the creative ways you came up with to use old flannel shirts! My favorite I think is the wreath hanger – super simple, but I never would’ve thought to cover it with flannel! Great job!

I love the pillow! How did you get the words “Merry and Bright” onto the fabric?
