Where can I get pinecones for crafting?
Pinecones can be gathered after they’ve fallen from your local trees. I always pick them up when I’m at the park and the kids are playing! You can also buy pinecones online if you need specific shapes and sizes!
How do I preserve real pine cones for crafts?
When you gather your own pinecones, it’s important to prepare them for crafting to ensure there aren’t any bugs in the pinecones and to preserve the pinecones so they’ll last for years.
Simply mix 1 part of water with 1 part of white vinegar then soak your pine cones for about 30-40 minutes. Just make sure to not leave them in too long as they will close up. Remove them and rinse them thoroughly and then lay them out on a cookie sheet to dry out. They should be ready in a day or two.
