4 ways to make 3D flowers. Grab some paper and scissors and let’s create some hand cut floral bouquets that will last forever!
Today’s project is so cool! 4 different flowers to make out of paper (or felt) These are hand cut and really easy! So easy that kids can do it too!
Here is what you need to make paper flower
- Paper not cardstock) I love this pack of colors from astrobright!
- scissors
- glue
- colored pencils (optional)
- straw or popsicle stick if you want them to have a stand.
Most of these are basic shapes but I do have a printable for you down below if you don’t want to freehand!
How to make a rolled flower
I call this one a cinnamon roll flower! You will see why!
- Cut a two circles
- cut one circle like a cinnamon roll
- starting from the middle, roll the paper around nice and tight. It will look like a funnel shape.
- let it go. It will loosen into a pretty flower
- glue the end to the side of the flower
- Glue the bottom to the other circle you cut. You can trim it down if it’s too big
However big the circle and what size you cut the cinnamon roll (really small swirl versus really big swirl) all will change the look and size of the flower. Try a few to get a variety!
How to make a tulip flower
These little flowers are so cute on their own! You could make a whole vase full for mother’s day!
- fold a piece of paper up to have 4 of the same size
- cut out the basic shape (looks like a dinosaur paw print)
- fold each one in half
- Glue the sides of each piece together.
If you are putting this on a flat card or picture you choose to only do 2 or 3 pieces instead of all 4 so it will lay flatter!
How to make a tab flower
- Cut 8-12 strips
- make a loop and glue the ends without creasing the top
- Glue around a circle of paper overlapping each other slightly
- Glue another circle on top (we decorated ours with circles from a hole punch)
Small strips, big strips, layered on top of each other, spaced apart! This flower can take on so many different looks! Play around! I layered on small tab flower on top of a large tab flower! The big one looks good with a big circle that you can write a fun message on!
How to make a layered flower
- Cut out a flower shape. Think Daisy, sunflower or just a regular 5 petal flower
- cut out the same flower shape but a bit smaller.
- repeat as many times as you want
- Take a pencil and use it to curl the edges
- layer from smallest to biggest and add middle
These look so pretty with a rolled flower inside as the middle!
After you have them all made you need to cut a few leaves to add around. You can take colored pencils and shade the edges of the flowers, draw polka dots or stripes or leave them plain! You can also make these flowers out of patterned paper (or even marbled paper!)
You can hot glue these on a notecard or canvas! Don’t they look so pretty!
Or hot glue them to paper straws or popsicle sticks and stick in a vase as a sweet gift to leave on someone’s porch!
We made a big canvas picture. When making a bouquet. I like to make sure I have lots of different sizes to work with. I start with the biggest ones first and add in the smallest. I try to keep the same colored flowers away from each other. Then I add some leaves as filler to balance out any blank spots!
