I have this niece named Shelby–who turned 3. and I asked her what she wants for her birthday and all she said was “Minnie mouse” Which I totallllly get because when my daughter was 3 years old, Mickey Mouse clubhouse was the only reason I got to take a shower! So I knew I had to make her something so fun! I’m in so much love with the Heidi Swapp Marquee letters! They are so fun and adorable plain…or fancied up. So I fancied one cup…Minnie Mouse style.
supplies: These were all found together in the craft aisle at Joann stores. The marquee comes withe everything you need (except two batteries) I bought extra bulbs because I didn’t know what color I wanted!
The marquee comes with an insert–so if you are unsure of what you want to do on the inside (where the glitter is) you can do that piece instead. (or trace it on cardstock for lots of options!) I just coated it with mod podge and covered it in glitter! Then took the washi tape around the edges. (the beauty of using Heidi Swapp washi tape is that it is the same width as the marquee!)
Add some lights. I decided to stick with the bulbs it came with–at the store I thought I would leave it white and do pink bulbs as polka dots. But–go glitter or go home.
To make the ears I cut circles out of felt and cut a slit into it. Then overlapped the slit pieces and hot glued them. This makes it so they stand up with a shape.
The Minnie bow is actually the glitter washi tape double backed onto itself and then cut into a fun shape.
I added some white polka dots and hot glued them to the top of the marquee.
It turned out exactly how I wanted it. and she carried it around the whole party (I think she loved that she could flip the lights on and off!) A perfect little night light for her room!
You could adapt this and make a Mickey Mouse one–just red with white…maybe the bottom could be yellow for his shoes?!
