Remember that boy felt car mat I made for my cute little nephew
(click HERE to take you to the boy mat tutorial.)
…and when I gave it to him at his party…my neice loved it! and played with it and played with it. So I knew that a girl one was needed…and since her birthday is next week…HERE it is:
The same basic construction as the boys
Start with some felt:
This is half of the yard. But I ended up trimming of about 8 inches from each side.
Then I take strips and hot glue them around the edges like binding
Then I just go for it. I add the garage and road on first and then start putting stuff around it.
Finished Product:
Comes with a castle. and an animal pen
a cottage (her house) and lots of flowers
a lake with mermaid and a fire station (her dad is a firefighter)
and apple tree with tire swing and her dog (ty)’s dog house
The “garage” is her intials and is just two big pockets to hold her stuff
Perfect for Littlest Pet shops
or princess stuff
or hot wheels
or polly pockets or little stuffed animals or my little ponies….man, why is everything little bitty?
I just included a littlest pet shop and a hot wheels car in her present.
and once again rolls up nice and small.

What a fun idea–I did something similar to this for my daughter's toy horses, but I think your idea is even better. Plus, you can roll it up and take it with you to friends houses, etc. I think it would be great to make a travel mini-version for my 3-yr-old for long dr. office waits, etc.

Amazing! I like the girl version of the felt mat. That would be a perfect gift for my little girl's birthday next month. Since she loves art, I'm sure she would appreciate this kind of present. Also, she's addicted to dolls. She got 18 inch dolls, clothes and accessories for dolls and chocolates last Christmas. On her birthday, her Grandma is planning to give her lots of 18 inch doll clothing. That way, she'd be more creative in dressing up her dolls.
Thanks for sharing how to make the felt mat, Kimbo! I really appreciate it!

I love it! We are big LPS owners…probably around 60 since every Christmas she gets another huge container of them. Thanks for posting! I can't wait to make it.

I really admire how you do this! I am currently training to be a Montessori teacher and I enjoy making things out of felt to put in the classroom. However, the children can always pull the felt pieces right off of things. I have tried using craft glue, regular glue, and super glue. Could you possibly tell me if the hot glue gun is the secret to getting felt to truly stick to a felt platform?!
Cearise says
Hi! I love these!! Can anyone tell m where to find the large sheets of felt? Hobby lobby or fabric store possibly?

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh you’re Aaaaaaamazing!
