Today I’m showing you how to create a super cute wood welcome sign using supplies found at my favorite store…Hobby Lobby!
The best part about this sign is that it is super universal! Make one that says grill…and add your BBQ tools. Put one in your kitchen with the words EAT and hang your aprons on it. Paint a sunshine and hang some beach towels. Add just the welcome or a cute hello and hang your hats and keys.
See!? So many ways to change it up! I made a quick little video to show you how easy it is!
Hobby Lobby has a whole fun woodpile section that is filled with fun wood items that make this project so easy! Lots of wood signs in tons of different sizes along with letters in different fonts from tiny to large! I also grabbed a sanding sponge and some wood pegs!
I actually wanted to make about 4 of these signs… just switch up the tissue paper or scrap book paper and each one would look so different!
I opted for this more subtle tissue paper with pinks and greens and gold! Hobby Lobby has loads of cute different tissue paper and decoupage papers to choose from!
I laid out my words to make sure I liked the layout and spacing before I painted them!
I added a generous layer of mod podge on the board.
Lay over the tissue paper while it’s still wet (work fast) and then add a layer of mod podge on the front.
Once it’s dry, I took an Xacto knife and trimmed off the edges and in between each wood slat.
and then sanded. I wanted it to look a little distressed and weathered.
I bought two different sizes of pegs but liked the look of the bigger ones.
I painted the welcome and knobs this pretty jade green color. (and the other letters got painted a pretty pale pink)
Measured out how far about I wanted each peg (math was involved! Not my favorite!)
and took my drill and bit and made a hole to fit my pegs in to. Added some wood glue to keep those pegs in place!
Then I just hot glued the words in place.
I snagged a couple pictures of it before I added the little one words on it so you could see how fun it would look in an entry way! (or you could leave off the pegs entirely and just hang on your front door!
Such a cute little diy! I love the colors so much!
