How to make paper flowers

3 different ways to make paper flowers a girl and a glue gun

The other day (and when I say other day I mean about 4 months ago) I hopped on  facebook and did a facebook live of how to make fun paper flowers! And now I’m finally getting around to blogging about it!

I did add the video for your viewing pleasure! But all the info is still down below!

Paper flowers are so fun! I cut out a whole bunch and have used them to decorate all sorts of things!

and with all crafty techniques–there are LOTS of different ways to accomplish it!

FIRST: My favorite and the easiest way: using your silhouette cameo

I know not everyone has an electronic cutter…which is way I give you more options below…but this is such a super easy way to mass produce these flowers!

The trick is finding 3-d flower in your silhouette software –If you notice they all look kind of similar. I only have about 8–and when you change up sizes and colors and the way you bend the pedals–they will look different!  3d flower

This is what it looks like when you add it to your silhouette studio. You can size these how big or small you want!

Just load your paper and cut!!!

I totally recommend double sided paper with a soft pattern–nothing too busy!

Peel off the excess paper.

easy way to cut out flowers

The things that make them really look 3-D is to bend the pedals. Each flower is a little different as far as how your bend or curl it! (the video shows you a little more of that!) After you curl the edges you just lay them out. You will go bigger to smaller. gorgeous flowers You will alternate each layer so the pedals are staggered.  layer petals and just hot glue each layer.  glue together

You can add fun buttons, pearls, or paper to the middle.  flower decals

I distress the edges with a little ink pad–I think it adds a little something something!  distress edges with ink

Second Technique: Follow a pattern!

There are actually lots of books that are pretty cool! They will teach you how to cut out flowers (and supply patterns too) You have to trace them onto a paper, cut them out, and assemble. So not the most ideal time saver…but if you aren’t making that many it’s a perfect solution!  61ZlG491I7L._SX405_BO1,204,203,200_

I bought this book…it’s double sided paper but has patterns and templates in the back.

and 2B: KITS Lots of fun kits are out there! Kits are a little bit different–usually they are either already cut out or you have to just pop them out of the paper!

I just got to try out this adorable wreath kit from Close to my heart!  paper flower wreath

It’s all inclusive…

#3 PUNCHES I didn’t realize that there were awesome punches that made flowers! Technically they are succulents but they can totally pass for flowers!

Get these awesome succulents from fiskars:

Two kinds:

This one:

and this one! Both totally cute! This one is a little bit bigger.  succulent paper punch

If you notice–you can fold the pedals different ways and put it in a different color and one punch will give you lots of options!  fun succulent flower punches gather sign

and of course….Pinterest is a wealth of paper flower knowledge!

Think about doing them on a GIANT scale! Like these:
